This is one of those UHDs where DV offers a noticeable enhancement to overall PQ over the HDR10. It is evident right off the bat thus restoring faith on dynamic metadata.

Not for me. HDR10 is brighter and more vivid.

HDR10 is winning the home release HDR format as far as I'm concerned. Static metadata and all.

I still personally prefer the concept of Dolby Vision, and it certainly looks exceptional in a Dolby Cinema venue, but the inconsistent--and that's putting it mildly--implementation of it on UHD discs so far, have made it less desirable to use it for watching HDR, disc-based media.

Not on my LG C8 OLED.

DV on this was noticeably better than HDR10 even in motion.

Not night and day but quite noticeable.

JW2 and Venom not so much.

Yep. Great concept, and I'm actually very happy that it's rescuing certain TVs from their own poor implementation of HDR10, but on the flip-side it involves too much compromise on my own TV which already has supoib HDR10. Admittedly it's got a jury-rigged DV implementation so that may be affecting it in certain ways (although the Dolby greybar problem is indeed a wider issue as noted by Dolby themselves: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post15977220) but in any case there's one too many problems there to take what I'm seeing at face value any more.

Sure, I might get a new TV someday and then fall in love with Dobly all over again, but today is not this day.

I would say it depends upon how it is implemented.

Some are really good and some are not.

Btw I now own 125+ UHDs and only few DV UHDs have been underwhelming.

You'd gauge Jim Cameron farting in your face as "breathtaking" so the mind boggles as to how insane DV looks on your TV, not that I actually trust your opinion on anything. At all.

DV looks MOSTLY good on my OLED. The raised blacks on a few discs are awful though. Plain old HDR10 looks great in Technicolor Expert mode with Dynamic Contrast on low. LG titles that feature DV are the ones I mostly have issue with. WB DV titles seem to be the best ones I've seen on my setup. Paramount has been mostly good but the raised blacks have popped up on a few occasions.

If you don't like DV on your TV fine but I think this sort of response is borderline rude mate.

**** me, a response that's thoughtful and measured when talking about DV, not throwing it under the bus nor worshipping the ground it walks upon. You sir have no place on this forum with your fancy 'middle ground' and newfangled 'common sense'.

Ok I know this is a really stupid question, but I am going to ask it anyway

I bought the 4K version of this movie to future proof myself. I currently don't have a 4K tv or a receiver that can handle something like Dolby Atmos. So my question is, when watching the Blu-ray for audio I can choose either Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD Master Audio. Would there be any benefit in choosing the Atmos over the DTS-HD track?

Thanks

Dolby Atmos has a TrueHD core that is backwards compatible, so if your system better handles TrueHD then go for that, if not then go for DTS-HD. If you can do both then I don't think it matters.

Sound advice and glad that you didn't resume the codec war lol.

Dunno what your setup is but pretty much everything can handle both, though there are some speakerbar setups can only handle one or the other so it's still worth mentioning.
