Have they taken away all highlights from the master so the player/TV will do the work?

The caps all look flat compared to the Bd. Look at the shot of the army in the road.
The suits absolutely do glow but those are SDR converted caps so they can't convey that.

As said above, you simply cannot get a true gauge for what HDR is ultimately supposed to look like without seeing it in HDR.

The UHD looks wonderfully filmic. The bluray looks blurry in comparison

First impressions after looking at the caps...

Great to see that the UHD does not appear to having any colour timing issues unlike the Theatrical BD, which is one of many WB BD releases that fell victim to Warner's colour revisionism. The colours on the UHD look normal, natural and healthy -- no tealing, no ugly reds, no nothing like what plagues the Theatrical BD. Looks like we finally have a HD version of the theatrical cut with no colour issues.

Contrast on the UHD is a significant improvement as well. The Theatrical BD suffers from blown contrast in places (as seen on the lights in caps 6, 7, 9 & 12). This, along with the Theatrical BD's revisionist colours, always bothered me.

The UHD also appears to have improved details in places. The most notable one I've noticed is the danger sign in cap 10, which is completely blurry, illegible and contrast-blown on the Theatrical BD but clear as day on the UHD.

Lossy 5.1 aside, the UHD appears to be an overall great release. Looking forward to watching it when I pick up a copy in a few days' time.

Yes, I spotted that danger sign too. Didn't even need to embiggen to 400% either!

And my God are those colors a vast improvement! I’ve ALWAYS felt like there was something just slightly “off” about Superman on disc and I just never could put my finger on it. Seeing the red of Jonathan’s truck now, I can see why. Forget about teal push, the old blu-ray had an awful magenta push. It was noticeable in rosy skin tones and the bluish reds in Supeman’s suit. I absolutely cannot wait to see this disc now. It looks stunning.

Look at the radio antenna behind Lois and the items on the shelf. Hell, look at Lois's face.

Awesome upgrade! Can't wait to get my copy.

Honestly, I was a little annoyed that they fixed some of the wires and the visible space-curtains in the Blu-Ray transfer, so if they went back and did a 4K transfer without the alterations I'd totally buy it. I want my Superman IV in all it's laughably bad-production glory, dammit!

Man, I just can’t stop looking at these caps. They’re so glorious. While I don’t agree with Robert Harris’s overall point that a UHD release is unwarranted due to the lack of a sufficiently modern / remastered blu-ray, the caps DO reveal just how utterly unnatural the blu-ray always was. I mean, just LOOK at this:

Blu-ray:

UHD:

I know some are saying this transfer looks “flat”. No, it doesn’t. It’s just not plagued with the (in hindsight) egregious contrast boosting of the old disc. I can’t believe how unnatural the old disc looks by direct comparison. This is precisely why caps are useful, more than anything, as a comparison tool. The old disc never looked all that bad to me, but next to the 4K it’s a total eyesore.
