Most of the stores near me already have them in store. Just check the website for stock near you. If they show stock then run up there and ask a sales associate to get it for you from the back room. Might as well get it from Target since they have the best price.

What I don’t understand is how this mono fold down KEEPS winding up on releases. It should never have been made in the first place. Purists will want the original mix, in mono. Those who don’t care about such things will want the remix because it uses all their speakers. A mono track that isn’t original satisfies absolutely no one.

Blu-ray, yes. But it also reared its head on DVD prior to that. The 1999 limited edition has the down mix on the TV version (as 2.0 mono, but it’s still the same mix, which has existed since Chase surround created it - the revised sound effects and altered stingers give it away immediately). My theory is that somewhere along the way, some release for whatever reason didn’t have access to the original mono and just dumbed down the surround version to one speaker figuring no one would know the difference, and it just keeps making its way onto subsequent releases instead of being destroyed as it rightfully should be.

It's just odd that on the Limited Ed Set where you get the option of two Halloween discs and the DOLBY TRUE HD Mono is on the 35th Ed (again the pressing in the sets was a new exclusive pressing) but they instead went for the DD Mono Mix Down off the disc 2? It's just odd Moments like these you have to ask who makes these decisions at these companies! |

To be honest, while mono is important in a lot of audio releases, I find it much less important for a film like this. Not quite sure why everyone needs it so badly, but I have no idea why it would not be included in such a package. Just seems so random.
At any rate I doubt I would listen to it. There is nothing wrong with a good 7.1 mix if it's done right for an older film. In fact, it can really bring out a lot of good things for the sound field. But whatever I had this preordered, and I am not canceling. I actually like that they have the older disc, as its color timing is different enough I want that version as well. Oh well I guess. I won't be too heartbroken though. Mono is usually super confining in films, I just wish it would have been an option. |

It's not about channels, it's not about mono.
It's about original audio mixes for one for the top films of all time. It's preservation, or its Lionsgate selling it again in a year with the newly restored mono mix. |

And you’re right. There is nothing wrong with a surround mix SO LONG AS THE ORIGINAL IS THERE, TOO. But the 7.1 on Halloween is not “done right”. In fact, it’s revisionist crap IMO. Altered music, altered stings, altered sound effects, awkward edits, etc. That is not how to do a surround version properly. If it’s your preferred track, then great. I’m glad you’ve got it. But again, frankly...your loss. |
