Watched this last night. Image looked incredible to me. Inky blacks in DV and very natural color tone. Detail is outstanding. Worth the upgrade from the regular Blu, IMO. Great action film, just wish the sequel was better.

I actually didn't mind the 2nd one. It wasn't nearly as good as the first one, but I didn't think it was as bad as everyone made it out to be. It'll probably be one I pick up if it is on sale at Black Friday.

Really enjoyed Jack Reacher when it came out, so will be picking this up to replace the already brilliant Blu-ray copy.

While it's a shame they're using 2K sources for JR, MI:3 and MI:RN when the nature of the material would probably make 4K DIs relatively easy to do.. It's great to see Paramount committing to Dolby Vision across this recent wave of releases!

I found there was a lot of hype around Ghost Protocol when it came out and while it still made for an enjoyable movie, it ultimately felt like a bunch of setpieces stuck together with a little too much comic relief padding it out,..trying to make up for a lack of coherency.

It seems to be a common thing since the post-Iron Man/CA: First Avenger Marvel Cinematic Universe (which still, I thoroughly enjoy for the most part). If you can't make a film that fully gels together, throw a load of comic relief at it and everyone will love it. I don't mean to sound like a bore or that I don't like humour; but it's starting to feel a bit lazy and can effect the tone of the movie negatively.

Even though it seems to be treated like the redheaded stepchild of the series that everyone ignores, I think MI:3 is a vastly superior and underrated movie. It balances various elements much better and is much more tonally coherent.

Agreed on all points. GP is a fun globe-trotting actioner but for all the high stakes it purports to have it also feels very lightweight, very cartoony, even the music feels like a "flavours of the world" pastiche, and MI3 grinds it into the dust in that respect. I still remember being wowed by that opening scene in the cinema, it's incredibly intense and the movie continues in that vein, it's not like it doesn't know how to have fun (it is a JJ joint after all) but that intensity keeps popping up throughout and PSH is the perfect fulcrum for it all. Cracking film, it's my 2nd fave MI after the original.

I agree with you completely every step of the way about Ghost Protocol and MI:3. Though I would place MI:3 third behind Mission Impossible and MI:2. I absolutely think MI:3 nails it just like you said and I think it delivers on the story and doesn't have too much humor as to distract from the film. And it would easily be in my top two Mission Impossible movies except for personal reasons alone killing that. That doesn't make light of how good MI:3 is. I think it may be my favorite J J Abrams film. Yes, it is my favorite. Even more so than Star Wars: The Force Awakens and I absolutely love Star Wars above all else.

I must be the only one here who loves M: I 2 and just as much dislikes M: I 3 because of PSH's performance (R.I.P., no disrespect). Just can't stand him in M: I 3. They should have cast him as a side villain, not the main one IMO.

For JJ it's a tough one as I like Trek '09 just a little bit more, but MI3 is a superior piece of entertainment nonetheless.

That's a tough one. I really do like Star Trek and it should be up there as one of my favorite JJ Abrams movies (for really good reasons), but somehow I have waned on it over the years. I guess after watching on 4K quite a bit it has lost some of its luster. I may need to pick it up again and see how I feel.

I agree with you on the MI:2 part. It's my favorite Mission Impossible movie.

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to tell whether I'm in the Jack Reacher thread or the M:I thread.

Even if it doesn't entirely fit the rest of the series, I really like MI:2 as well, it's your quintessential millennium-era action flick and a very enjoyable one.

It's a Tom Cruise thread, all Tom Cruise threads are Tom Cruise threads.

My bad, last one from me..

My favorites of the series are MI1 and 3 followed by RN. MI2 is too cheesy for me, GP is more of a disappointment because it follows MI3. GP in itself is a decent flick but it lacks the coherency of the other 3. I did like PSH quite a bit in MI3. I also enjoyed the fifth one.

I didn't even notice I was in the JR thread until I looked back at my last post in here.

Not my fault, the guys before me were talking about M: I so naturally I followed up upon that.

I keep heading out of the thread into the 4K forum, then clicking back in because I forget I was just here instead of the M:I thread.

I watched my copy of this over the weekend. Holy crap I still love this movie. After not watching it for an extended period of time it is funnier than I remember and the fight and chase sequences were oodles of fun! Thinking back to my viewing of the sequel, I can see why it was disappointing in so many respects. #2 just lacks the fine nuances that this film has in spades. McQuarrie did a fine, fine job with this film.

The increased image quality of the film also was an appreciable improvement across the board.

The sequel was straight garbage.

I'm hoping McQ gets to do a third film, which he himself has said would be R-rated.

Would be nice to get a gritty, yet funny, take on Jack Reacher.

Since we are talking about the MI films in the Jack Reacher thread, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Jurassic Park 3 is by the far the best of the bunch.

Whats your favorite Jurassic Park movie?

I don't think the sequel was garbage. I think it's greatest sin was mediocrity.

Like you, I'd love to see an R-rated third movie, hell, even a PG-13 rated third movie would be fine by me. They pushed the limits of that rating quite effectively in the original.
