I'd like to see an actual scan of the negative and not the interpositive for once (which has been the source since the '98 THX release). Seems like a rushed release due to the new flick.

No dice at my local Target that purportedly had this in stock online - guy in Electronics said that his scanner indicated their stock would come in on Tuesday.

Oh well, it's only two more days!

shock horror. brace yourself. strap yourself in because I don't know if you'll be able to handle this. it's this rad new thing. totally new. you've been watching a film and not a documentary.

Who actually wants to listen to the downmix mono? Is there a reasonable scenario in which this particular mono would be preferred over the 7.1?

A receiver that lacks a mono mode, some receivers stereo is least amount of channels you can force. So this downmix allows center channel only experience in that case.

I still watch blu's with their original audio mix, but then I'm probably the worst person to ask.

I still listen to original Beatles mono records. :\

You have an AV Receiver and one speaker?

[Show spoiler] Actually, no, the only reasonable reason to have mono is for the original mix.

They probably sound pretty damn good compared to their folded stereo versions.

Seems I have a harder time doing this as I get older, especially with certain kinds of movies like slashers or paranormal flicks. And sometimes my mind goes into fourth wall mode and I start picturing the behind the scenes crew putting the scene together as it unfolds on screen.

The stereo mixes are a product of their time and it shows, but in a way deserve preservation on their own.

This requires the basic assumption that the alarm is sounding as a direct result of Michael breaking into that store early in the morning and that it has been ringing all day since then.

In other words, you need to make an arbitrary plot assumption in order to create a plot hole around it.

I'm actually guilty of the same thing when it comes to firearms, or military/law enforcement action scenes, in films/television shows.

It's 2018, and even with the improvements from actors like Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves, we still have prop masters that don't know how plate carriers or used---and filmmakers like Katheryn Bigelow, who can't accurately depict how SEAL members do simple communication signals.

I just try to be better at picking my battles anymore, lol.

But hey, in the case of HALLOWEEN, we're talking about a 40-year old film, revolving around a being considered 'pure evil'; practically immortal. I think the positives of this film far outweigh whatever head-scratching plot elements there may be.

True, but this film does get extremely high ratings which I never understood. It’s a well made slasher flick and a step above most in the genre but it has many of the usual WTF situations that schlocky horror films have. Incompetent police, extremely dumb teenagers, bad character decisions, convenient plot contrivances, etc, etc.

Blu-ray.com gives the movie itself 5 stars. Really? That’s absurd.

I get that way sometimes when there are errors in scenes of people playing chess. One example is the computer chess scene in The Thing, where the pieces on the board drastically change from one shot to the next, there are illegal or nonsensical positions on the board, and all the moves that the computer announces except for one are incorrect. But I appreciate it when they get it right and have an actual cool combination of moves, like the Wizard’s Chess scene in Harry Potter.

Yeah, 5 stars is too low. I give it 10.

Because none of that happens in the real world?

I'm not suggesting halloween is a study in realism, nor was it designed to be, but in these respect it's probably closer to the calamity of real life than the prescribed logic of many scripts where the writer controls all things and all actions must make sense...which is much more alien and absurd when you think about it.
I guess people just see so much of the regularly contrived logic of TV and film and are so used to it, that they somehow forget the strange shit they see people do on a day to day basis.
