I updated, but probibly won't notice anything with my exsisting titles, and no one seems to report haveing playback issues with the S300 (other than loading time ).
I bet this is for something upcoming.

I watched Mr. Brooks last night and at certain parts not very often started to freeze then skip 10 seconds of the movie. I wonder if the disc was damaged it was from netflix, but looked good to me. This also happened on a sd dvd to.

The only discs I have had freeze were also from Netflix. I recieved Meet the Robinsons this last wednesday and it was craked at the edge, brand new movie. That's 3 movies out of about 50 with cracks from them. But being that the movie was released tuesday and I recieved it wednesday, I think it may be the postal service causing this.

I agree that the Post Office not handeling NetFlix very well!. BR & DVD are always in bad shape when I get them, but they aer not packaged well from Netflix either.

Default dark scenes

I scanned for this topic and did not see it so excuse if I'm being redundant. Received my new s300 last week and have updated with 2.60 firmware. My problem (question) is that when playing a S-DVD the darker scenes seem extra dark. It is ok for 'bright' scenes but poor visual quality during low light scenes. I can't decide if this is inherent to upconvert, problem with player or a setting that needs to be changed. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I think the settings get lost. But in case you did not see, version 3.20 firmware is now available. Installed in about 8 minutes from 2.60. Go get it.

Unhappy Spiderman 3

I got Spiderman 3 from Netflix yesterday. No luck playing it so I updated my firmware to 3.20. Install went fine and the disc loaded. I checked out a few of the special features before deciding that it had gotten too late and I'd watch the movie tonight.

Tonight I tried to watch it and I got the same "disc can't play" errors that I got before I updated the firmware. Double checked the player and it was showing 3.20. Tried reinstalling the firmware - it's says it installed correctly, buy still no luck playing the disc. Any ideas?

Default firmware 3.20

Thanks for the feedback. I find it interesting that just last week I requested the latest firmware from Sony and they sent me 2.60. You would have thought that they would have gone ahead and sent me the disc for 3.20. I pressume I need to go to the same SONY support area to request 3.20?

PS I just went to the SONY website and ordered a dvd for 3.20. Maybe I missed it last week, who knows....

I watched all 3 on my S300 W/3.20 and no problems. I have had issues with netflix, most recently Meet the Robinsons (had a small crack on the outside edge). Make sure the disc is clean with no fingerpints or lint and try again.

Aside from fingerprints, it could be a bum disc. It is rare, but it happens. No harm is done running them under water and patting them dry.

3.20 was released on 11/2, so it depends on when you ordered. Or they don't have their act together.

While I did save 34 seconds on loading POTC 2, in general, I only saved about 4 or 5 seconds in loading any BD-J disc over 2.60. It could be the end of improved load times, but let's keep the enhancements coming.

Something is sketchy about NetFlix discs. We watched Disturbia on blu-ray last night and it froze during part of the movie, and would not start again. We had to go back to the scene selections and choose the next chapter for it to play. There were no real scratches on the disc at all. I think something unexplainable just happens to these netflix discs that makes about 5% of them screwy.

Doesn't the S300 have the same chip setup as the S1? If so why hasn't there been any audio upgrade to TrueHD yet?

I put v3.20 on last night and tried my "disc from hell", Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Knocked 25 seconds off the load time. I'd call that a nice improvement. Still too long to load, but a nice improvement.

Keep in mind that the S300 isn't/wasn't a direct replacement model for the BDP-S1. People seem to have forgotten this fact.
