That's because their CSR's aren't informed. If you notice the link goes directly to the Sony web site. Sony has always posted the FW to the web server prior to posting the updated web page.

It may be my imagination...wishful thinking...whatever -- but this thing appears to load discs significantly faster.

So far -- so good.

This was a poor purchase for me.The thing is sooooo slow, and the fact that it doesen't decode the True HD and DTS HD,but the similiar priced players do is a major insult by SONY.This is however my fault, because when I bought my 60-inch TV I researched the crap out of it,this however was an impulse buy during the main purchase. So I take full blame. It does however have an amazing picture after I wake up from my nap just about the time the movie loads....

Ok, so this isn't software from the Borg. How long does POTC load from the moment the door closes to first image on the screen? My last test was 1:55 for 3.30.

Hi,

I was told by a friend that eventhough the player does not decode Dolby True HD and DTS HD, I can get around it by buying a receiver that the capability. Is this true? Or do I need true HD and DTS on both the player and receiver?

Thanks

No all you need is a capable receiver as long as it's via HDMI.

Has anyone figured out if the 3.70 firmware upgrade does anything other than fix playability issues with certain movies?

Hi All,

New member so I hope I'm doing this right.

I recently purchased a BDP-S300 and a STRDA4300ES. I have upgraded the firmware to 3.3 and have the player connected to the receiver via HDMI 2 using a Monster 1000 HDMI cable. I also have a DirectTV HD DVR (HR20-100) connected to HDMI 1 on the receiver. I have no problems with the DirectTV receiver.

The player will periodically drop audio with occasional video blips while watching Blu-Ray movies. I have tried everything I can imagine - using different inputs, swapping HDMI cables, etc. Nothing seems to make a difference.

The last thing I did last night was to run component video to the receiver and I didn't notice any problems. I want to go back to HDMI though.

Is this a bad player? Bad cables? Any help would be appreciated.

I updated, does anyone know for sure what the update did besides improve times?

The 3.70 firmware is officially listed now along with 3.30.

Improvements over firmware version 3.30:

Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.
Additional improvements over original firmware:

Compatibility with the newly released BD-R/RE format (BDMV).
Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.

Here's hoping to improved speed.

I am confused I thought the S300-S301 did not have the true HD built in the model. I am reading people here saying the update in the future will have it. Does that mean true HD will eventually be available on this model?

The S300/301 uses the same chip set the BDP-S1 has, which got TrueHD with a firmware upgrade, so the S300/301 could get this upgrade in the furure. I keep looking for it.

I just upgraded to 3.70 and my problem is now worse than is was. I now see periodic audio AND video dropouts. Before is was a very minor video blip but now the screen will go completely to "snow" for a couple seconds then everything will come back on.

Very disappointed and I'm thinking I should return the player.

I've had zero issues. Take it back and swap for another S300 or another brand. It you have similar issues, it ain't the player.

Have you tried connecting the player straight to the tv via an hdmi cable?
