The price drops are for the holiday push to gain more territory. You can't sell these things at a loss indefinately. Besides, I'm looking forward to see what the new 2008 models afford.

We have a great player, but it won't be great forever. Everything gets old. Only a few things become classics.

Fortunately I got it for $299 there 2 weeks ago with Spider-man 3 and POTC3 free deal.
That is the wrong link as that one is sold by OneCall. Amazon actually has two BDP-S300 links. Here is the one to Amazon which is $316.

Ah ok. I edited mine to not confuse people. Weird that they have the one from Onecall on their main Blu-Ray page instead of the Spidey deal.

Yep, that one defaulted to OneCall but you could change the retailer to Target, J&R, Electronic Express (although it now appears it may be rotating it among the retailers as it is now defaulting to EE). The one I posted defaults to Amazon but also has a choice of retailers including Electronica Direct and Photoland NY.

Yeah I noticed that on the right side. Amazon seems to have itself spread out all over the place. I really like the store a lot though. I signed up for the trial Prime membership yesterday and I think I will like it a lot

hello i'm new here, ive been reading these boards fer months but i just joined. i am by no means new to this format or to home video component setup but i do have a question about my setup. ive got a bd300 hooked up direct hdmi to my samsung 4042h and the pq is almost perfect except for one thing there is a level of grain to the picture. i know its not the tv because i had a ps3 hooked up before and the picture was perfect so i know its the player but i was wondering if there are some tweaks or adjustments i could make to reduce the grain. its not that bad but it is noticable.

I had the same thought at first but then from reading here it's been pointed out that each individual movie may have a level of grain put into it purposely my the director to mimick the theater screen. So if it has grain, it's supposed to be there. From what I have read, the movie 300 seems to have quite a bit but others have much less and some none at all. There are tweaks you can do by using a setup dvd to show you what to tweak. Avia and DVE make some. There are a lot of threads here about them. The movie Ratatouille has a simple one on the disc as well to help.

No it's not the player, I have the same one. However each tv will look different as they all have different settings and are calibrated differently. You can probably post a thread asking about your exact tv model in the Home Theater or Newbie forum and others who have it may be able to help you better. I did that for my tv.

Overall, wait time is a slight inconvenience, but well worth the wait.
I find it easy to look past the slow load times if you only use it for Blu Ray viewing. Waiting 4+ years and spending over $300 for a player that takes 47 seconds to open the load tray on power up or 47 seconds to load an audio disc is frustrating if that is your only player. Reason why I picked up an upconverting DVD player for every day use. I guess I have high expectations.

I would expect improved products to be available this Fall.

Maybe then the "Play" button on the console will actually play the movie from the disc menu.

Default Lowest Player Price I've Seen...

Here at Butterfly Photo. I picked mine up for this much and interesting enough for me, it's about 2 miles from my house in NJ. I just went to the showroom and picked up my Samsung 52" LCD and the Sony player directly.

http://www.butterflyphoto.com/1/BDPS...Ray_DVD_Player

$279.00 and comes with Spiderman 3.

Shipping was free during the holidays. Now it's a bit overpriced but still comes out to be a reasonable price after picking the lowest cost shipping option.

I don't think the updates will do anything to PQ. The machine has a great rating for PQ out of the box, what problem are you having with PQ?

Watching Invincible on my S300 right now and it looks outstanding. Never had issues with PQ, only load time. With the latest firmware it is much better though. Longest I have had to wait is 1 - 1 1/2 minutes for Ratatouille.

This player is terrible. Was so excited to get it a week before it was available in stores, but I should have just purchased a PS3. Not only does it take like a minute to turn on and open the tray, but you gotta wait another minute or so for the damn movie to start (movies that have Java only) I really wanna stick with Sony, but i also want a Blu-ray player that can bit-stream out DTS HD Master Audio and DD TrueHD. What's going on with the price on this player too. It was $500 when released...then $400...then $300 for the Holiday and now back at $400. If you are deciding to buy a Sony Blu-ray player...I would go with the PS3 over this. PS3 is faster and can decode TrueHD. Lastly, this thing has been acting funny for the last month, and it has firmware 3.30. It's been over a week and Sony still has not sent me firmware update 3.70 as requested. I hope this is the fix to my problem. (i.e. picture and sound cuts out and Blu-rays freeze) I see I am not the only one having this problem either. Two movies with excessive problems include Stomp The Yard and War. I had to restart War like 5 times, which is absolutely unacceptable due to the fact that it is a Java disc.
