I agree that your situation sounds strange. Make sure that you thoroughly clean the BD's before playing them especially if they are rentals. It may be that your BD transport/laser is misaligned and therefore it is not reading BD's accurately or perhaps its a symptom of the laser starting to fail. Since others have reported no issues playing Horton with 4.3, the next FW update probably won't change your situation. Hoping otherwise.

I had problems with the v4.3 update as well and ended up sending my BDP-S300 away for service. Sony sent me a refurbished unit with the 4.3 update that worked flawlessly. I have not tested Horton or the new Mummy movie yet though.

got my s300 yesterday. so far it is amazing. sure, the load time is nowhere near as quick as my samsung bd-p1200, but the sony bdp-s300 will play blu-rays. and all the way through. i put in i want to believe and it loaded right up. no trouble like i had with the samsung player which needed a firmware update. i watched i want to believe and nodded off due to the late hour. i woke up and it was still playing. no freeze ups. other blu-rays loaded up fine and played. the dvd's loaded up fast. i mean blazingly fast. i thought the flash was in there for a second. i am at the moment very pleased. it was a tight squeeze getting it, but it was worth it. hopefully i won't have to buy another one for 10 years.

Okay, I've been following this thread a couple days...I have the 300, my wife hates it because of the load times...I don't mind, but hey, happy wife happy life!

I sold to a buddy, bought the ps3...now I'm not a gamer, but I'm willing to try...like race cars and war, so I figure I'm good.

WOW, load times are, for the most part, not timeable...you put the disc in, it starts! Similar to dvd...I'm thrilled (bought a couple games too, haven't opened yet)...wife is happy....happy wife happy life! Yeah me!!

hey fightthefuture, load the extra's and try to go thru the timeline part...REALLY great feature for the x-phile in all of us...but blindingly slow, at least it was for me. a BIG part of what caused me to drop the 4 bills on play station last night at 8 pm. haven't tried the extras since, but will do so tonight and let you know.

i'm sure it will be a bit of a pain, but i can't justify buying a thrid blu-ray player in one year. if it ends up that way i think i will just have to say no to blu. as much as i love it, that's too costly. but it doesn't matter really. the s300 plays my blu-rays ALL the way through. and that is enough to keep me happy for the time being.

I posted this in the general thread, but thought it would get more of a specific response here:

Hello from a newbie on the site.

I have read that the Dark Knight may not play on my s300 without the firmware upgrade.

I have the s300 and a Sony Bravia V series TV.

I have followed the instructions very carefully, and downloaded the file, unpacked it to an ISO and burned the image

There are 4 files on the disk (Branded, S0001, S0002, S0003)

All seems to have gone well

I put the disk in, and get the "Disc-DWLD" message, and the a few seconds later, I get:

"NO DWLD 09"

I have searched googled, and can not find the meaning of this error.

My unit has firmware 3.70 currently

Also, I am in Canada if that makes a difference

Thanks in advance for any help...I am going to load the Dark Knight, and see if it played anyway....

Last week, Kung Fu Panda would not play

i was able to play 3 movies last night without any lick of trouble. i came across some trouble with wall-e, but jeez!. that's one movie verses every movie on the samsung bd-p1200. plus load time on all the blu-rays except for i want to believe were incredibly fast. faster than i was lead on. i was expecting to have cook a christmas dinner before the movie loaded. i was so surprised. this is a great little player. dvd playing ain't too shabby either. i'm not sure if the upconversion is as good as samsung's, but i'll play around with it later and see for sure. too busy playing blu-rays (finally!!!!!!!).

Did you recently update the firmware?

I had a similar problem where I couldn't load any discs for two days after trying to play Pirates of The Caribbean 2 with the original player firmware. I updated the firmware, but that didn't help. I eventually solved the problem by unplugging the unit for several hours and then reloading the latest firmware (a second time) and since then (almost a year now) I haven't had any issues. I think sometimes reloading the firmware may help as I am speculating that the player memory either gets corrupted or doesn't always update properly. Worth a try anyway.

Default Don't unpack the ISO image - just burn it to disc

Don't unpack the ISO image. Just use an image buring program and burn it straight to the CD/DVD. Then use that disc to load.

I live in Canada too and haven't noticed any issues with updates and have updated my firmware several times. As a matter of fact, I usually phone the US tech support as they are much quicker and more helpful than the dolts that answer the Canadian support line (whose answer always seems to be limited to 1) upgrade firmware, 2) send it in. )

I should add that the 3.7 firmware was crap - you must have an older unit. I had nothing but problems with 3.7 As soon as I got to the next version 4.x my player became more "stable" again. That said, if it plays the movies ok, then don't tempt fate.

Wall-e still freezing with the 4.40 firmware. I think someone mentioned unplugging the unit which I have not tried yet. I really want to watch it without having to restart. Grrr. Best animation of the year and I can't fully enjoy it.

Just got Lost: S4 today, only it doesn't seem to work on my BDP 300. It goes through the previews fine (of course) then gets stuck on the image of the circles with the dots going around them. The dots get halfway around then it basically freezes. I haven't updated the firmware since I got it last Xmas, could this be the problem? Anyone else having issues with Lost?

Default Resume Playback

I originally bought this Player when it came out, and ended up returning it because the resume playback did not work on none-BD Java load discs after the unit was powered off. I am thinking on buying this unit again to put it on my bedroom, and my question is: Does this unit now resume playback after powered off on none Java load- Blu Discs?

The only way the player will resume after stopping a BD is if you leave the player on AND the disc is not a Java BD. This has not changed via FW.
