I have the S300 and a Pioneer VSX-1018 connected through HDMI. I have my blu-ray player audio settings for HDMI set to PCM.

When I was playing Iron Man I checked the audio on the S300 and it says Dolby Digital 3/2.1...this is Dolby True HD right?

Did you actually go into the BD setup menu and select the TrueHD soundtrack? If not, you may only have standard DD (the hi-rez audio if often not the default audio track for a BD release - depends on the studio).

Woo hoo, first the switch to digital TV now this. Just when I thought Sony had stopped supporting the ol' Tank.

Hope there are some nice speed tweaks.

No, I think its only through HDMI. I may be wrong though.

Analog outs are umm, analog. Are you asking if it will decode TrueHD to PCM then convert to 6-channel analog at full resolution? No - Analog is only 2-channel on that machine. Older S1 would do 6-channel analog outs.

Ack! I just pulled out my old manual and this unit does have 5.1 outs. TrueHD to PCM decoding is supported now with current firmware so you will get the full resolution decode.

Edit: Make sure you -
◆When using the 5.1CH OUTPUT jacks
(Connection –page 14)
•Set “Audio Output Mode” to “5.1 Channel” in “Speakers”
Setup (page51), and adjust the “Speaker Setup” setting for
your system. D-1

For the millionth time, the S300 only decodes TrueHD to PCM and outputs it via HDMI. TrueHD is not available via analog outputs on this player.

With V 4.90 ...It seems to load abit faster .....
Or maybe ...just my player .....

I bought this player over a year ago now and have never updated it. Im wondering if there will be a considerable speed increase in the 4.9 version compared to whatever version it may have came with that long ago. Thanks

No speed increase but updated FW will allow you to play all recent releases.

Actually, it could depend on his version of firmware. If he bought it over a year ago, the installed firmware could be older than that from sitting on the store shelf for so long. Load times aren't the only performance tweaks new firmware gives.

But still get 4.9, if only for the cosmetic appeal of HD audio.

v4.90 does help load discs faster...even java heavy discs like wall-e..

some of the discs were on par with ps3 load times.

Anything loading as fast as a PS3 is a non-java BD. They load under 35 seconds. The Tank S300 plods along when it comes to Java but gets the job done. I hope mine lives for a long time.

Another thread mentioned 5.0 firmware for the Dutch version? I see nothing for us yet.

I just ordered 4.9 from Sony's website and they sent me the 5.0 disk!!!

Been trying to get it from the FTP site but does not seem to be up yet. Any idea what they fixed? These days its all mild Java tweaks and play back issues. Nothing groundbreaking like the earlier releases.

Anyone have the direct link to 5.0 for the US of A?
