Buy a new player!!! They are dirt cheap now and infinitely superior to the old models. I had your player around 2008 and it was a horrible player. Get one of the current Sony models for around $100, you won't regret it.

I can not play the new Spiderman title on this player. I hate to say it, but after 5 years Sony may be done supporting "The Tank".

Which is a shame because you don't put old flagships out to the bone yard like an old battleship.

In the past, Sony has issued new firmware when it periodically released new firmware for its other players. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. I still have the BDP-S1 although I don't use it as the primary player.

Has anyone contacted Sony regarding the playback issues they're experiencing?

Anyone still have one of these in their setup? I'm looking into picking up a few spare players and this has been one that I've been considering. I'm curious if anyone still uses theirs and if so how it's holding up? Was the firmware ever updated after the last thread post in 2013? Any issues with current studios/films? Any updated info at all is appreciated.

As for why I'm asking... I'd prefer to pick up a few of these older "Tank" units because of the good looks, quality build, and because they are fairly cheap. I have no interest in online features at all, so network connectivity isn't a concern. (I have other players for that purpose.) I just want a quality player that looks good, sounds good, has solid picture quality, and can play whatever regular blu's I throw at it. (I'd love a 3D "Tank" unit, but these don't exist and bargain prices).
