Excluding shipping fees from whatever retailer, it looks like it will be about $20. Not bad for 2 of three cuts on blu.

I have the Mediabook version of the HD Argento and while its not as good quality as the theatrical version releases it's certainly worthwhile.

In the UK Arrow claimed they could not get a decent enough HD copy so only included it in SD on their set so the German release is most welcome , imperfect though it is

Even though Dawn is pretty much my favorite movie of all time I've never actually seen an cuts other than the US one. Does the Argento vers have different shots? Im assuming if it were just a shorter version they could edit it appropriately from the US version.

I really hope a new release of this comes out sometime soon. I know Synapse was talking with the rights holder about licensing it at one point.

Agreed. I've been waiting for something at least on par with the AB Ultimate Edition dvd.

Maybe when I have a lot of extra money to burn I'll just buy the JP Dawn of the Dead releases for all the different cuts.

Same here. I'm hoping if I do eventually or maybe get the JP releases it'll be similar to the awesome AB Ultimate Edition DVD 4-Disc set. (Click the image.)

There's but for $122 before shipping is a bit much.

For the JP 3-Disc taken from HD Goofnut's International PQ/AQ thread.
US Theatrical Version (127m Romero) - AVC 36000 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 2119 kbps 96 kHz 16-bit, no eng subs (Region A)
European Version (119m Argento) - AVC 36000 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 4823 kbps 96 kHz 16-bit, no eng subs (Region A)
Extended Version (139min) - AVC 36000 kbps, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 1964 kbps 96 kHz 16-bit, no eng subs (Region A)

There's also this too. (Again click image.)

So is this: http://shop.dtm.at/product_info.php?...02&language=uk

The same one in these screen caps? http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ess=#vergleich

Did you order from the dtm shop?

And according to the always reliable caps-a-holic comment section, the AT discs have the same transfers as the Japanese discs:
Quote:
Are the AT disks by XT Video Entertainment just ports of the Japanese transfer? They both have 36000 kbps video...

Administrator:
I just checked and you are indeed right. Those are the exact encodes of the JP BDs by Happinet, confirmed with a couple of test caps:

The Japanese versions have problems with gamma/black levels/color space, whatever people are calling it this day of the week. In essence looks like a low contrast picture with the brightness too high. Or else I would have been all over that box set.

Eh, might as well be hopeful for a fullblown properly 4K AVC insane bitrate (where it looks as they grabbed a fresh print from 1978/proper color timings!) with all original audio and remixes in lossless, subtitles, tons of extras and more for a multi-disc release from either Arrow UK (oh the snazzy booklet and packaging!) and possibly even Scream Factory. But if it came down to it, I'd more than likely import the Arrow UK release.
It's one of my most wanted Ultimate/Comprehensive Editions movies in my wishlist. I want the entire package instead of a single disc with only one cut. All Three Official Cuts and even possibly the Unofficial Ultimate Cut too.
I love this movie.

^^^ Ditto. About everything. I've only ever owned the standard dvd release and have tried holding off on the dvd Ultimate Edition in hopes for an awesome blu ray set. I love Criterion for their packaging and supplements, but theyre really hit or miss on encode and things like color timing for me. Arrow would be ok, hell I'd pay Twilight Time money if it meant good quality like the new Journey to the Center of the Earth release. JUST GIVE ME MY FAVORITE MOVIE! lol.

Explain examples of each. Are you just talking about the Thief release? I've got quite a few Criterion Blu Rays and the encodes are always strong as is the color timing. Most I've noticed is minor haloing and the likes, nothing really notable.

Sure Thief could be one, but I opted for the Arrow release anyways, so directors intent or not, either way. I just notice that a handful of the titles I own can often have a dim or dirty look to them, maybe color timing isnt exactly the right word. Paris Texas, Repo Man, Scanners. I notice it frequently with light sources, light bulbs, headlights, etc. I feel like they turn the brightness down to bring out more detail sometimes and it just looks unnaturally dim. I also feel like Criterion goes toward the side of pink/brown colors sometimes. But again, just my opinions, I'm no expert. I try not to get obsessed with screencaps too often for my own sanity, lol.

On the other hand I'm always pleased with their B&W work.

As for encodes, thats just really where the OCD screencap comparisons come into play. More artifacts sometimes than other releases.

I see what you're saying. I don't agree but I get it. I think Criterion are largely excellent distributors. Easily the best of their size. I have a copy of House coming to me soon from them that I'm excited to watch!

Cool

I love this movie; one of my all-time favorites for sure. I have the AB Ultimate Edition DVD and standard Blu-ray. And I'm happy. If someone put out a comprehensive collection like the AB UE DVD on BD, I'd buy it, but honestly I only ever watch the U.S. Theatrical Version. The longer cut is too slow and padded, while I miss the things cut from the European Version.

There was also a skeletonized female zombie crawling towards Daryl and Aaron under the truck that was very reminiscent of the one tied down on the embalming table in The Return of the Living Dead.

Last season, the zombie that rose from the mud to take a bite out of the Governor's surrogate daughter was like the iconic cover for Fulci's Zombie, and the mob encountered by Glenn and Tara in the tunnel included a dead ringer for Day of the Dead's Bub.

Any other zombie cameos on the show?

Yeah I'd much rather Blue Underground to release it instead of Scream Factory especially since they went DNR/EE nuts on THEY LIVE and a lot of other titles. Otherwise I'd rather have Arrow UK what with their great current treatment for catalog titles and multi-disc sets. Only hoping if the Ultimate Edition does make it onto Blu as a multi-disc set, yes 4K for all and more including multiple BD50s and what I outlined in an earlier post, but zero DVDs. A massive 160 page booklet would be nice too if it's housed in a Digipak or Slipcase. Isolated scores for all too especially as lossless.
Just wish I had my own dream company.

EDIT: Also wish Arrow UK would create a comprehensive multi-disc boxset for the Time of the Dead (Night, Dawn, & Day) Trilogy. Same for Return of the Living Dead Trilogy but Second Sight has Part I already in a nice release. Dunno how old or new the transfer of it is. About to pull the trigger for the JP Night of the Living Dead Blu even though it's cropped.

Is the Australian import version of this any good in terms of audio and visual quality??? I noticed Diabolik have a bunch and I still don't have this yet.

http://www.diabolikdvd.com/category/Horror-[sl]-Thriller/Dawn-of-the-Dead-(Australian-Import)-(Blu~Ray-All-Region.html

Thoughts?
