Anchor Bay's Blu Ray of Halloween has amazing PQ.. I have never seen Dawn of the Dead, but I hear it is a great disc.

The PQ is a great improvement over the DVD.

It's one of those soft-but-still-detailed titles. I think it must have been cleaned up digitally. However to my eye it still looks like film; they didn't murder the thing. I would say quite good overall and beats the pants off DVD quality.

A great film too -- a pioneer of the zombie genre (X-rated for gore on original release!) and an enduring satire of consumerism.

Side note, one of the actors in Dawn makes a surprise reappearance in Rob Zombie's Halloween remake.

It's not bad, it's a definite improvement over the DVD edition but overall still a bit drab. Most would say it adds to the feel of the film, though. I was considering selling off the 4-disc Ultimate Edition once I got this, but I think the packaging and the supplemental content (Document of the Dead) is worth holding on to. Get it, it's usually part of some kind of sale or relatively cheap on it's own.

Interesting. I didn't pick that up (saw Devil's Rejects ages ago, before I'd seen Dawn). Funny how Zombie keeps recycling the same ol' pickers. Like that Captain Spaulding actor who gets a bit part in the Halloween remake apparently for no reason other than to stick him in somewhere.

Sid Haig! Which is a shame he's just known as the "Captain Spaulding actor" to most people now, but you should really check out his back catalog during the 70s if you're into exploitation films. It's a pretty common theme for directors to re-use actors they like working with, I don't mind it.

Thanks ... now checking the imdb entry http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0354085/

Look at that CV. He was in Kill Bill Part 2? Jackie Brown -- probably as an allusion to the blaxploitation appearances.

Hmm, a lot of one-off appearances (probably some of them non-speaking parts) major classic TV shows, but a lot of work in the original Mission: Impossible. He's been around alright.

PQ is great for a low budget movie that's 30 years old.

But you might want to keep the ultimate set for all of the extras.

Its been a while since Ive seen it. I think other than the PQ and AQ, back in the 70s they didnt do special effects like they can now. I think I liked the remake better!

Well while it's a given that the special effects are nearly as "impressive" (which is debatable in this era of CGI), I think Tom Savini is a living legend and I believe this movie was his debut. He did a great job with this movie, fake orange-tinted blood and all. It really adds to the feel of the movie and is probably one my favorite part of it, it gives it a kind of an over-the-topic/comic book feel.
But honestly, this movie is 30 years old, you can't really fault it for the effects.
