Yea, maybe, for some reason when I edited my post (twice) instead of just updating it it created new posts each time. Fixed it by deleting the duplicate posts.

Why in the world is a movie like Dawn of the Dead OOP? These Movies are immensely popular. Why didn’t this become a collectors edition also along with the remake?

Because Scream Factory is too cheap to shell out the money for it. They’re more interested in re-releasing garbage. And yes I am aware that the guy who owns the rights to the original is asking for a lot of money but if SF really wanted to do they would work out a deal.

No one is coughing up the ridiculous amount of cash Rubinstein is asking for it. People can troll about SF all they want but I don’t see Arrow or any other labels paying the ransom either.

Guess I'll be stuck with my old Ultimate Edition DVD for a long time.

A prospect I'm not entirely unhappy with.

Not everyone has the money Shout Factory has. Arrow maybe, but they haven’t impressed me these last couple months either. Criterion is another, but I don’t know if this fits with their type of releases. All other small labels can’t afford it.

So then is it worth shelling out $50 or more for an OOP title?

I wonder if Well Go were bullshitting when they previously said they didn't get the rights for it a while back, only to make a surprise announcement next year.

Them and Shout are the only labels I can see accepting Rubinstein's hefty price tag.

I guarantee you someone works out a deal next year. Too much money to be made to let the anniversary go by unchecked.

OK thanks for a simple answer. I don't see why a new release for next year with it being the 40th anniversary.

I found a copy at FYE last year for $5. All reviews I have seen indicate it’s a dated mediocre release. Also it’s such a high profile movie it will be released again.

I'd hope that Criterion would save it, seeing as how they're releasing Night.

They should do that for all the original 3 then.

We don't know the asking price, I really wouldn't be surprised if it had to sell Star Wars/Marvel numbers of copies to turn a profit (which would NEVER happen no matter what year it was - do you really know people who buy movies based on their release year??).

I don't see any label paying the licensing fees for this. It would be a losing venture.

I feel like one way or another Dawn of the Dead is too big a property to be Wade Williamsed into obscurity. I'd like to think that Rubinstein will see the light and make terms on a great video release of Dawn and Martin sooner rather than later.
