When I bought the blu back in 2007 (which was one the first blu rays I ever bought) I never thought 11 years later it would still be out of print...

Yeah I find it very odd and really sad when popular films like this one become OOP for a long time, or in some cases never get a Blu ray.

If only someone had Rubenstein's contact email and orchestrated a group effort to let him know that we all want a Dawn of the Dead collector's edition on blu-ray from Scream Factory...

http://www.newamsterdamnyc.com/contact-us

Be sure to include Martin and The Night Flyer in there as well if you're taking a couple minutes out of your day to do so.

Rubinstein would just use that to justify his outrageous licensing fee demands.

Screw it, I just got a four-disc Blu case, had someone print up a custom cover for me, and now my Anchor Bay DVD set can sit on the shelf next to the other Romero Dead films. It'll do until someone wrests the rights for the film away from Rubenstein...the DVD set still looks pretty good.

Was wondering if Rubinstein was also the hold-up for a Martin Blu-ray. I saw it for the first time just recently after my brother won a still-sealed DVD copy on eBay, and I really enjoyed it.

There weren't. The last film printed in IB Technicolor in the U.S. was THE GODFATHER PART II in 1974*, and IB tech printing at Technicolor Rome and London was discontinued in 1977 (which is why there are some IB Tech prints of the original STAR WARS, they were made at Technicolor London).

Chris

*IB Tech printing was reintroduced in the late 1990s for a couple years at Technicolor in Los Angeles.

That's a shame. I know with Dawn of the Dead he's asking reportedly seven figures to recoup the cost of his 3D conversion but I wonder what the excuse for holding back Martin is.

Martin was a rare film that I sat down to watch knowing pretty much nothing about. I had no idea what to expect and ended up really loving it. Would be great to see it on Blu-ray.

If I had to guess, he's probably using that as an additional bargaining chip to try to get the huge amount for DOTD. "Hey, it might sound like way too much money, but you're getting Martin thrown in too!!!!"

RE: Group email guy, I think your best bet at success is if you only get a few people to do it, maybe that will make him think there's no demand anymore and he'll lower his asking price. Otherwise, it's exactly as Zbinks said. What are you going to do, say, "tons of us want it!!! Thus you should sell it for LESS!"

Except we don't want Scream Factory to release it. We want Arrow Video. Better packaging, better features, better encode, etc.

Then tell Rubenstein that... or don't. Either way, don't tell me.

Eh, Arrow's editions have definitely been better and more elaborate, but I'd take either one.

You do know that it's been out of print for years and uses the Arrow master (which was barely a slightly better variation of Anchor Bay's). It's more than just availability, we just want a decent looking presentation that doesn't have weird colors, incorrect black levels, moderate DNR etc.

My bad, didn't realize it was out of print The point is, it should be more about availability, as I don't see this one getting a new transfer so even if it's not perfect if this one were made available again those of us who don't have it yet just need to jump on it and not keep waiting for something better that may never come. Say Rubenstein does actually license this out and finds someone crazy enough to pay his ridiculous asking price, a new transfer wouldn't seem financially feasible.
