Is there going to be an ultimate set on regular BD, or is this going to be exclusive to 4K?

Unlikely for any release to be 4K exclusive, especially if it's not coming from a mainstream studio with big pockets who can afford to take such risks to push a format.

Well, first a distributor has to pay Richard Rubenstein for the 3D conversion he did then he'll re-license the movie.

In English, if you have the Anchor Bay Blu, treasure it. Ditto the Ultimate Edition DVD.

Yeah, Amazon.jp still has it. I can't believe this blu-ray set was released almost six years ago. Time flies...

Does the Japanese release have an English audio option?

It does, however I really wouldn't recommend this set.

It's very expensive for a dated transfer and no extras. The upcoming 4K presentation of all three cuts and new extras will be the one to buy.

There are a surprising amount of Ultimate Edition DVDs on eBay going for less than I would have thought.

It's cuz word of the upcoming 4K set is out.
I think I'm still gonna keep mine since it's just ****ing cool. Can't imagine the next set having better packaging. If it ends up with extras not making it to the 4K sets, I'd bet it goes back up in price again. It will probably go back up anyway like the Friday the 13th dvd boxes, this film has cult legs as least as long as those.

Thing was $24.99 from Amazon when released (thanks dvdprofiler). I hardly recall paying that little, but do remember them shipping stuff much better since my box is still mint with most of the shrinkwrap still on it. Just slice open the slide side, then the box don't get scuffed!

They're using brand new scans.

Quote:
“Following the 4K scan of the camera negative, grading and framing approved by DP Michael Gornick, we now have about 4 weeks left of manual frame by frame restoration at Final Frame followed by the HDR grade for the UHD. We are releasing the 3 cuts on 3 separate discs (both Blu-Ray and UHD) plus bonus disc so the authoring stage will then take several weeks for the best possible encodes by David Mackenzie. We are currently hoping for a release date in February and will update again in the next month.”

“Aside from the 3 versions of the film itself, plus archive and new bonus material, we are also working on other exciting additional content for the box set. We have been very fortunate to have Michael Gornick involved and it was great to hear his comment on work to date: ‘I place upon this extraordinary effort a nihil obstat in certification of its quality’. More soon…”

Yes, the set will feature George A. Romero’s Original, Unrated US Theatrical Release Cut (2:07), Romero’s Pre-US Release Cannes Cut (2:17) and the foreign edition edited by Dario Argento.

The 4K Ultra HD discs will be Region Free, with a UK Blu-ray also coming.

I'm happy to own it, and looks really good to me (I love the extended cut) but yeah just go for the 4K set due in Feb. of next year I believe. It should be the best of the best.

Given the status of this title, I am surprised Anchor Bay has not reissued a new Blu-ray edition, especially considering the multiple DVD editions they put out. Do they not own the rights anymore? I got a brand new copy of the Anchor Bay Blu-ray from an FYE for $3.00 (for real) several years ago. It officially went out of print shortly after. I have considered getting rid of it because I am honestly not that big of a fan, and I have the Ultimate Edition DVD set which has the different cuts, and is the most loaded/complete edition to be released as far as I know. The only reason I'm hesitant to get rid of the AB Blu is because the picture quality is notably better.
