And I hope someone can use that to convince DR that this film needs a region a, along with Martin.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more frustrated I become. We'll see what happens. If by the time the labels start announcing their October titles and we don't hear anything, then that will probably be it for this year.

If Criterion has it then they could release it whenever as go to the beat of their own drum. I think Second Sight would know if a US label has it, but I'm sure their lips are sealed in that regard.

Either way, Monday I was pretty optimistic, Friday I'm feeling a bit more nihilistic about everything.

Still, I reached out to the top dogs of Criterion, but I highly doubt I'll hear back about it.

Well thank you for playing detective and trying to solve this oddball puzzle.

I only buy Sony players and the region free Sony UHD players are usually very pricey around $400.

I mean, if someone wants to buy me one so I can be in the club, I definitely won't say no!

Thinking about getting this one. It’s 145 and Sony

Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into a region free player thread, but that model will only play BDs. It would make more sense, IMO to get one that plays UHD as well but those are the ones that cost $400.

What's the point of buying a "region free UHD player" when UHD discs are basically always region free and a region free blu-ray player +a UHD player are cheaper separately? :P

I vaguely remember seeing someone post a list of region-locked UHD titles and it was like, three discs in the entire world. I guess if you wanted one of those then it would be worth it! Or just to reduce clutter by your TV.

While technically not a "region free" player (and how you only buy Sony players), the Panasonic DP-UB420 is perfectly compatible with the "top menu" trick and is relatively affordable. Of my collection, all of my region locked Arrow, BFI, Carlotta, Eureka, Koch Media, and Indicator discs have worked perfectly with only discs from Signal One/Plan B and most StudioCanal discs being locked tight.

Again take this with a grain of salt. Someone asked Geekgab today if they should get the Second Sight release or wait for the US release. They replied that they are waiting for the US release. Probably means nothing, but just figured I'd throw out a little bit of hope out to the ether.

Haha. I guess the next question we need to ask is if we should expect a US release in 2021. Might eventually give us answer with some meat on it.

Oh God, I hope not criterion. If Arrow release it, we'll have an incredible release, with reversible cover and the original poster, a 60 pages booklet and hours and hours of special features. Plus a sexy slipbox. :P
If Criterion release Dawn, we'll have a disappointing new artwork for the cover (and no option for the original poster), possibly a cheap digipack packaging like their Notld and a 6 pages at best booklet (or worse, the essay will be behind a poster!). Plus no 4k.
God I can't stand what Criterion have become, stuck in the early 2000.
Scream or Arrow would be perfect for this. Heck, even Kino would be great.

100% won't be Arrow/Scream/Severin. It really comes down to Vinegar Syndrome or Criterion. I would love it to be VS, but more likely to be Criterion.

Maybe this will be the title they finally go 4K with, but that's an if and also and if they even have it.

I guess another label could release it like Synapse or Well Go, but highly doubtful.

I passed on the high-end limited of this, assuming a US release would happen eventually, but the four-disc edition for $40 seems too good to pass up. So I won't pass it up!

My reasoning is that I already have a UHD player and I don't want two players due to clutter. It makes more sense to only have one player that can do it all.

If Geek Gab ends up another one of their Q&A's could someone ask them if they know if a Dawn of the Dead US release is planned for 2021? I'll ask them if I catch them in time, but I missed the last one.

Well Go USA is also a great contender. Have you not seen their Phantasm set?

A couple years ago Well Go was rumored to have DOTD. I always assumed they might have been the mystery company that Rubenstein walked away from at the last minute.

I actually haven't, but I take it is a solid release? I own a ton of their Asian releases, and those are mostly good, but nothing very elaborate.

Going to reach out to them. Couldn't hurt I guess.
