You're probably right. (Unless it's VS) Still, this is a massive and important film that deserves circulation in the US. It's not so much a question if it will be superior or inferior for me. What's important is that fans should be able to get this release in a highly accessible form and for many that means a US release.

Either way, unless Geek Gab is flat out lying, it looks like we should expect a US release soon enough.

If there's going to be a US release, I wonder if they will be able to licence the Second Sight master?

Yeah, I noticed that. Still, as someone who often makes similar mistakes for simply writing too quickly and not looking at what I wrote, I can relate.

Oh, I definitely agree with that. It needs to be available in the US. And there should be an option for people who aren’t region free or 4K capable.

I can’t imagine they’d release it with an older master.

I don't know how these things often work, but I remember Kino saying something along the lines that once you license a film you can use a master from another territory. That's why some labels wait for another label to remaster it a title before they release it, so they would have the newer master and wouldn't have to do any work.

So yeah, I would believe they would have access to it. I wouldn't be surprised if the US label that has it, contributed financially to Second Sight's restoration.

If they contributed to the restoration, they will most likey be able to licence it. But if not, then they probably have to pay a helluva lot to licence it.

I think the restoration would come along with the license if they contributed to Second Sight's restoration or not. The license cost itself is probably what would be killer.

If they were to use the special features that were exclusive to the Second Sight release, then they would pay for those. Again, I could be wrong, but this is what I remember Kino saying awhile back.

I hope it's not Criterion. They almost never go all out for a release and are overpriced. They would probably leave off most of the old extras, replace the classic cover with some new arty rendition, not to mention that they still aren't in the UHD game. Criterion doesn't do definite releases, so I would prefer someone that would.

Hopefully it's Vinegar Syndrome. If they just took the Second Sight release and made the Bluray of extras region A I'd be happy.

The ultimate twist would be if it's Vinegar Syndrome, but I honestly don't think they could afford it, unless it some sort of short term special deal with Rubenstein.

I would love Martin as well, but my priority is a US release of Dawn.
Maybe it's VS but in the same vein as Beastmaster. 4K release and limited stock. One time only.

Me neither. But Koch in Germany tried to get the Second Sight master. They weren't allowed to use it. Now, I don't know if it was too expensive for them. Or if Second Sight has a strict contract with Rubenstein that forbids to licence it to any other studio. Koch had to go with the French master instead (of the Argento Cut).

Their NOTLD release is pretty definitive to me.

Yeah, Criterion does great work. I know it's pretty popular to use them as a punching bag since they haven't gone 4K, but their Blu-ray's are all top notch.

This years release of the Irishman was absolute perfection in my eyes for a film I didn't think would get a physical release. As you said, their NOTLD release is great.

Didn't know any of this, so that makes what you said earlier more possible.

If you are 4K capable, there no reason not to get the Second Sight.

I disagree. No original artwork, cheap packaging, no thick booklet, missing key extras such as: One For The Fire: The Legacy of Night of the Living Dead documentary (83:55), Speak of the Dead: A Conversation with George A. Romero featurette (15:47), Reflections of the Living Dead documentary (78:43), etc. It's a good release, but I think several other companies would have done better and made it more definitive, ie. Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, or Scream Factory.
