Are you referring to the OOP 2007 Anchor Bay release? What sound mix did you start with, mono or 5.1?

I see. I only ever watched the Second Sight release with the orginal restored mono. It sounds absolutely fantastic imo.

off topic here a bit but--i just got in from germany-a blu ray 3d 2d version of dawn.and it's the wear the glasses type of 3d.to folks that just enjoy watching a movie it is great.the theatrical cut.it's good cheesy fun.to folks that find fault with every release-stay away.this is a fun item that will not meet perfectionist levels.but buddies over pizza beer movie night-oh yeah.

Sorry for this as I'm sure it has been covered elsewhere in the thread, but just to clarify...
All three versions of the film on the Second Sight release are UHD discs and will play in my Region A player, correct?
I realize the 4th disc is a standard BD disc, but I've read conflicting things about whether or not the versions other than the theatrical cut are UHD, but I knew I could check here to be sure before a purchase. Thanks!

Yes, the UHD sets present three, region free UHD discs- 1 for each cut.
The special features disc is Bd, but locked (as far as I know).

I got the set last week and burned through it. I can confirm discs 1-3 are region free while disc 4 is locked.

Thank you for that info. I don't know why some reviews were saying only the first disc of the theatrical cut was in UHD, but thank you for confirming what I thought was correct. Really looking forward to seeing this!

I think there's only one and it's long OOP. I'd highly recommend getting a 4Kplayer or a Region Free player and getting the second sight release.

The Japanese Happinet release is still available, but not cheap, and probably not great either. There's also a bootleg from Spain.

Yeah I really should get around to hacking my ps3. I did it with my wii years ago but it's so hard to find the time/energy to do it

Honestly it’s probably cheaper (or more worth your money in the long run) to get a region free Blu Ray player and/or a 4K player rather than drop money on an OOP Region A copy.

I already have the Arrow blu ray. Should I save up for the Second Sight just based on A/V quality?

look at the caps and make your call.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...156349&i=2&l=0

(all they have are comparisons with the SS UHD- but the color grading is consistent there with their region locked Bd)

The SS looks incredible, but also radically different then I've ever seen this film look before with much cooler color timing.
Some colors, like the grass in the above shot, are so over saturated they practically fluoresce.

I'm not necessarily averse to this (new?) look, but it absolutely changed the experience for me rewatching this. I've always associated this with warm, somewhat muted, fall colors, and the sanctuary of the mall feeling like a warm haven. Now the whole thing feels much cooler, even colder. That's not necessarily bad for this material, but it was... different.

Apart from that, it's the best this film has ever looked as far as resolution and
the absence of any film related damage/distractions.

Here’s the big question is the new color timing the intended look of the film is that how it’s supposed to look?

DP Michael Gornick supervised and approved the transfer, so the answer should be yes. That is how DAWN is supposed to look.
