I'm new to the conversation. What about Criterion? I have both The Brood and Scanners. They did a fine job.

I wonder how the Japanese version compares to Arrow's and and Anchor Bay's? I'm very close to pulling the trigger. That price is what's keeping me away from purchasing it. With my luck, An all new transfer will come out soon after.

I think its safe to say that would be a dream come true for everyone on here. A lot of people say it can't happen but you just never know...

At this point, I kind of feel like Criterion is our only hope. I know Rubinstein is asking for a high price but it just seems like something only Criterion would be able to pull off acquiring at this point.

I think the combined financial efforts of Arrow, Shout Factory, Criterion, Synapse, Blue Underground, Severin, 88 Films, MVD Rewind and Vinegar Syndrome could easily pay Rubinstein off for a mega collaboration restoration of Dawn of the Dead and Martin.

It'd make for one hell of a celebration for boutique labels. Each label's strengths can instantly override their individual weaknesses in such a project.

Say Rubenstein does actually license this out and finds someone crazy enough to pay his ridiculous asking price, a new transfer wouldn't seem financially feasible.
I don't know all the details but considering that a 3D conversion was made, I figured that meant the film was probably remastered first, that way the 3D would conceivably look the best it could rather than just being a 3D version of an inferior ancient transfer.

Even if they all joined forces I believe the issue would still come down to money. Who would pay what amount for how much monetary return each would receive, would be a legal nightmare in of itself with multiple labels such as the ones mentioned above producing a release together.

Call me cynical but I just find this idea depressing.

I know this wouldn't actually ever happen, but just the idea of it doesn't seem like it would be something to celebrate and I'd feel gross giving my money to it.

Distributors shouldn't have to team up like The Avengers to rescue a pair of films from a hostage-taking rights holder while overpaying him and giving in to his demands. Pardon the overstatement but it's the same principle of not negotiating with terrorists. Otherwise it sets an example and someone else is going to buy up some beloved films and ask for exorbitant amounts. Let the guy die while being stubborn with his mistake or let him accept reasonable offers.

This is the craziest post I've ever seen on the forums but I would LOVE for something that insane to happen, but in a way, yeah, it feels like superheroes teaming up just to pay a super villain ransom.

But now I like this idea of some villain kidnapping the mayor's kid or something and sets a ransom for $50million. And Batman just, like, pays them.

And who makes the money off the sales? It would be a logistical and bookkeeping nightmare that would end up in court because someone would feel shortchanged. If it were divided by percentage, with each company making 11% per sale, no one would ever make a profit.

It was just a silly idea I was throwing out there for funsies.

It actually working in principle probably has more cons than pros anyway.

How well do classic horror films sell each Halloween? There’s gotta be some money that’s lost every year.

I feel like now is the time to strike, since you can cash in on bluray/4K and then X years libraries will move to digital so they will buy it again.

Take one for the team. We've all done it. And if you were the one for this title, you'd go down in the forum's hall of fame.

I feel like they would pay it if they found a way to include Martin in the deal for the same price. Both seem like Criterion choices.

I really want to see Martin, but not until an inevitable HD remaster.

I don't know, Criterion couldn't even outbid Kino for the Dollars trilogy .
