The 3D conversion is actually really solid. I saw a screening of it at my local Alamo Drafthouse last October. I had low expectations prior to the screening, but was pleasantly surprised.

I saw it in 3D and was extremely disappointed. I would happily take it if it was included with the set, but would be upset if it's inclusion raised the price by even one dollar. I thought it was at a Phantom Menace 3D level of mildness. Maybe it was just the theater I saw it at (Areo in Santa Monica with Dolby 3D) but I doubt it.

3D mileage varies with both presentation and perception of the individual.
I also saw Phantom Menace 3D and was disappointed with the mild conversion. Dawn 3D was not mild. Lots of pop outs and depth. Broken glass and blood popping right out of the screen. |

We have a Benq DLP projector and a 100" screen. We sit about 10 feet away. It's easily the best 3D experience I've ever had - superior to most theatrical 3D showings I've seen. When we saw Avatar in theaters, it was plagued by ghosting. The same with Gravity. At home, absolutely no ghosting and incredible depth. I love it! |

It's too bad home 3-D never really took off - I would've liked to own a 3D television - but there's just not enough content to support the format. A large number of the available titles are animated films and cheesy PG-13 family movies. Much of everything else seem to be conversions done after the fact. To those of us who are not fans of cutesy animated films or post-conversions, there would've been little incentive to own a 3D set. It's just a format that was never properly (or widely) supported.
As for this week's Dawn of the Dead preorder, I'm just not in the mood to buy anything right now. According to CNN, the apocalypse is upon us. Ironic, isn't it? |

In fact, I've been tempted to upgrade to a larger OLED monitor, but I hate to lose the 3D capability. I probably only have around a dozen 3D blu-rays (mostly golden age, but a few recent ones), but I want to be able to enjoy them a few times a year. FiOS used to have some 3D OD, and we enjoyed that, too. But, I don't think they offer them any longer. |
