It’s that simple.
Some opinions are 'better' than others, or we wouldn't have 'experts' in an area. But those with the least knowledge in an area often are the most rightous in their viewpoint (i.e. have a lesser awareness of alternative ways to see something). Like insisting a film is a 'bad movie' because they personally didn't happen to enjoy it. If somebody else enjoys it, that makes them wrong...

It's really disheartening that a producer who he called a friend. they worked together on 9 productions that George was director (and some others with George in another capacity).

Hope Richard sees clear and does the right thing: forgo the money (or at least lower the large asking price) and get the film out there. Get this on a boutique label in Region A AND also get this on a streaming platform.

And do the same for Martin.
This whole Rubinstein drama would make for a fascinating documentary. A play-by-play analysis of a Producer's head getting larger and larger with each passing year. Someone so obsessed with money that he withholds the art (in this case, the DoTD film) from fans in hopes of scoring the largest possible payday. Yet, he approves the release of the film in a single foreign territory for reasons only known to himself. I'd pay $20 for that doc.

It's not his decision. He raised millions to do the full-3D restoration from investors, so he doesn't have full control over accepting deals. (Not sure about Martin, I assume Martin is only lumped in for a small boost in leverage that it gives him.)

Wrong!

So-called "experts" are just useless eaters trying to justify their jobs. Those who can't do, become critics.

I only used 'experts' to describe somebody with a great deal of knowledge on a given subject vs one with little and was saying opinions aren't all the same, otherwise there wouldn't be valuable advice, opined, versus worthless advice, opined. If you're talking about purely subjective experience of film viewing only, fine, then there's not much to say..all opinions are the same...and everybody is a genius.

I was working with Anchor Bay when they held the rights for DAWN - and yes, the man being mentioned here was a pain back then. He used his rights with a hammer and was difficult to deal with.

Thank you investors for raising the millions needed and screening it once or twice, and nothing more. Glad they got their money back from those screenings and didn’t need to do anything else LOL.

If so then I wonder if there's a point where there's a year that the investors stop making their investment back and he still retain full rights and means of making money. I'm not to sure how all that works.
But he maybe should convince them that he has to sell the movie to other countries and get the film to both more physical media and streaming.

Has it ever been publicly discussed why AB stopped doing all those cool horror special editions?

I could be wrong, but I think when Starz bought them out they simply had other priorities from a revenue generating standpoint. My guess is they were more interested in television and streaming deals. Plus, I think that happened around the tail end of DVDs mass popularity.

They must've seen the decline of physical media coming and bolted. They basically sold out to corporate America before the going got rough. I hope history does not repeat itself with other indies. I've already seen another companies' name on my Vinegar Syndrome purchases (someone with an LLC). Maybe they've partnered up with an investor but this usually means they end up taking over

Bill Lustig also leaving might've had something to do with it.

But even in the end they were on certain occasion releasing classic titles on Blu-ray including teaming up with Scream Factory to do the Halloween Complete Collection which to me was their great final piece.

When Anchor Bay was bought out by STARZ the company was held back for doing what they did best. STARZ stood in their way and demanded creative control - which meant they actually stopped Anchor Bay.
Ancillary rights diminished. Bill Lustig left and their chief of mastering and started Blue Underground.
People left Anchor Bay. I moved over to A&E. The company basically went under. I remember how the budget for Anchor Bay just dried up and a once innovator in the home media format simply died. Why STARZ bought them is beyond them. People at STARZ kept interfering with the releases and what was hoped to be released.
It was sad to see the company fall apart.

Thanks that's what I meant I'm not very technical I just have a US blu ray player which is my PS4. So is the UHD a 4K blu ray player? So if I got a 4K player in the US would it work on that?

You’d need a 4K blu-ray player and 4K TV.

Anchor Bay was a class act when DVD's were new. The classiest. Their work was
impeccable. No one, not even Warner Brothers, were as conscientious. The
standard they set informed the entire home video business, from transfer sources
to aspect ratios to color timing to encoding to annotation to marketing and pricing.
I don't think they'd have been as successful if they hadn't handled contracting and
licensing with scrupulous care and honesty. If you were involved in any of that you
have every reason to be proud of Anchor Bay.

I owned most of their catalog and all of their Hammer. I really appreciated what
Anchor Bay did for Hammer Films.

While there will be a UK release, I'm hoping this might finally open the door for a US release if it hasn't already. This is a film that should always have an accessible disc release in the US.

This is the right positive take. Keep spirits up that another version will be released. i know people are excited for the 4k UK release, and that's rad. Be excited for it. But a release for it there could mean for it to be released here.

The dream is that Arrow gets a hold of the US rights and releases it as a special release with Martin too.

If Arrow got it, it would be an amazing release. Hopefully it happens at some point.
