Received my DAWN OF THE DEAD 4K UHD box yesterday.

At first glance the theatrical cut has never looked better.

The transfer is everything it should be and more. I love it already.

Sorry, surely a dumb question. I follow a lot of threads and try to go back several pages to know everything but if someone can just answer this, I would appreciate it. All because it seems people are now scrambling to get a copy of the 4K Shameless box-set:

Is the 4K box-set limited? I have one coming (hopefully) and just want to know if I don't get that one, if I have other options before it's gone.

I'm sure it was a limited edition but I don't know the numbers.

Getting nervous. Why would they ship this without any kind of tracking information or even which shipping service they used?

So my copy from Amazon UK arrived. The outer box looked like it had been kicked here from England, but amazingly the set looked fine.

...but they sent me the 4K set by accident instead of the Blu Ray set. I have a region free Blu Ray player, but not a 4K player or TV. I contacted them, they said a replacement wouldn’t ship until mid-January. Plus I’d have to deal with shipping mine back. I dunno, is it better to just keep it and wait until upgrade to 4K? I mean, in a way I’m lucky because I got the 4K set at the Blu Ray set’s cost, but it kinda sucks not to be able to play anything but the Special Features Blu...

You could probably buy a 4k player for about the cost of shipping that back to England right now :P

Yep, and that's all you'd need to watch it, albeit down-converted to 1080p. Start with a player, then the set comes later after saving up.

Watched the EC the other night and man this looks ****ing beautiful in 4K.

It was Amazon's screw up so he shouldn't be on the hook for the every expensive return shipping.

I'd ordered the Bd set to save a few bucks, figuring SS would max the PQ and AQ on the 1080p to it's full potential anyway.
Watched the theatrical cut last night and was fully satisfied in terms of resolution and general pic attributes. The sound quality was also excellent (used the 2.0).

The color timing gave me pause a few times, but I can't deny the cooler temp is warranted based on how many times you can see an actor's breath during this. Clearly a chilly shoot.

While the 1080p was satisfying, I'm still extremely curious to see the cap comparisons when they invariably show up. I'll be surprised if I'm compelled to further upgrade though, once the standard versions are released.

Keep the 4K set. Eventually, you'll upgrade. I bought the Panasonic DP-UB420-K for $150 and couldn't be happier. Like you, I only have a 1080p set, but using some custom settings, the picture is quite excellent, adjusting for the difference in black level and color. And the player doubles as a region free player because it's played damn near everything I've thrown at it using the top menu trick.

The only discs my Panny 4k won’t play are 88 films releases - the region coding on them seem impenetrable.

this happened to me with return shipping but eventually DHL picked up my package and I didn't have to pay the shipping.
I might have contacted DHL or what not but the set I returned was a very heavy 40 disc cd set in a big outer box, probably close to 10 lbs if I remember correctly

I'd honestly just hang onto it. It's not THAT expensive to get a UHD player, and it'll still play your discs on a 1080p display (albeit downconverted). And if you eventually upgrade to 4K in full, you'll already have a copy of the movie.
