The Second Sight restoration is easily the best I have ever seen. PQ & AQ (mono) on the Theatrical Cut = perfection.

That one to me looks like the Arrow has a weird red haze over the shot. I mean, I've seen the movie many times on VHS and everything so I'm not very picky and I don't claim to know what it's "supposed" to look like, but the SS color looks much better to me.

Hmm. Maybe I'll look at that at some point. I really didn't have any issues with the transfer when I watched it. I previously had the Australian Blu-Ray and the Anchor Bay box set (and the VHS) but was watching them on all kinds of subpar TVs over the years, so nothing different stuck out to me as "wrong."

Wow the prices of the US Anchor Bay discs are just insane right now on this tracking around $100, glad I hung onto mine. Also goes to show people with region free players are such a tiny percentage of movie collectors (talking about the remastered BDs, not the UHD). Hoping for a US 4k set at some point.

I just sold my last copy and I got a nice hunk of change for it. I bought 6 copies and was able to sell ‘em all. I just had family members buy directly from Zavvi and I put ‘em up for sale as soon as I got ‘em. I even sold one copy for $400 and someone bought it.

This set from Second Sight is why I bought an all-region Blu-ray player.

Wow, why are people still buying that? Soon it's going to be cheaper to buy an all-region player with the SS release than it will be to buy a crappy 1 disc version with inferior PQ.

Speaking of, now I sort of regret giving my australian disc away for free after I got the SS. I guess I could have price-gouged some sucker!

Oh boy, I think it's far from a "crappy" disc. The PQ is mighty fine, I've had it since day one and still have zero problem with the visuals, of course it's not a UHD, but it's Dawn of the Dead, most people don't care.

Your average person would rather buy one expensive disc for their collection than an all region player, you have to realize owning an all region Blu Ray player is extremely fringe, you are a percentage of a percentage of movie collectors, even buying UHDs is fringe. Beating region lock on DVDs, which was much easier and cheaper to do back in the day, was a minimal thing for ages.

Most people play their movies on their gaming system of choice, they don't even own a standalone player, let alone an expensive region free one (yes, $150 for a chipped $60 Sony player is expensive). I also realize paying $100 for a disc is expensive, but I just answered the question of why during my reply.

People need to let go of their egos as region free collectors to realize most people don't care that much and buying one expensive disc for a movie they love is just easier. I don't own a single region locked disc and I could care less, I get most things from Japan that the USA doesn't have yet, or an all region Euro disc, and in extremely rare cases I have to live without a disc I'm dying for (Mean Guns, Knock Off), but in the end they always make it here eventually. With the exception of building a collection of some Hong Kong titles, I think all region players are overhyped. And who wants to have two BD players have to be stacked, my main player is way better than a chipped Sony regardless.

The Second Sight release is a revelation. However, I am still keeping my Anchor Bay release. I have such fond memories of watching that disc more than 50x. I am so used to that specific look/color timing of the film. I don't think I am ever going back to it, now that I own the Second Sight release. But I can't help it, I just love the Anchor Bay disc.

Talk of regions shouldn't be a thing. This movie should have already been re-released with the works. Rubinstein has that Dune money now, so maybe he should reconsider a deal and work with a Region A boutique in getting this and Martin properly released.

I can’t imagine what a region A set could offer that I don’t have from the Second Sight set. Bar none, the best physical release I own of any movie.

For people who only buy Region A...

Maybe with the recent news of Martin, a company is the US will release the 3.5 hr cut, allowing Dawn to also get a release.

Sure sure sure.

But that could also mean streaming rights would be involved too. And I feel like these films (Dawn & Martin) need both physical media stateside but also streaming homes. Reach a wider audience by any means. if Mr. Rubinstein was smart, he would forgo being hung up on 3D and do this.

It would also be quite respectful to his ol' pal George, who he worked with on five feature films that GAR directed (along with various other films and docs they produced together).

I still find it INSANE that Dawn of the Dead is not available in the US. Not on Blu-ray, not on streaming, nothing. I personally think it's the biggest horror movie of all time. It should be available to all. The streaming generation is going to miss out. With Criterion going 4K, maybe they will give this a release at some point.
