I wouldn't be shocked in the least if this title was licensed to a US distributor some time ago but said distributor has just been sitting on it until the time is right. It would seem completely out of the reach of Synapse for instance, but if they were to have it, A) They wouldn't tell us until it's ready for release. B) They would spend years on it tweaking every last detail/color/menu/audio stems to accommodate Don's Obsessive-Compulsive ness, and C) It would explain why not one distributor has to the best of my knowledge outright acknowledged the exact reason we haven't see it re-released. We all have speculated that it's due to Rubenstein wanting big money and/or due to the 3D conversion dilemma, but I don't believe that's ever outright been confirmed to be the issue (as likely as it is).

Sounds like the price was too high and now that so many of us have imported the SS release, it might not be worth the money or effort. Skip to 59:35.

That deal fell through years ago. I think a US Dawn would still sell like hotcakes as it’s brought up on the forum by a hundred different members it seems every month.

I'm just hanging onto my multi-disc Anchor Bay DVD set for now.

Don't quote me on this but last I had heard Richard Rubinstein, the producer and owner of the film, was asking for too much money to license it out to anybody. I'd read some rumor, somewhere that he's incredibly difficult to deal with and that Scream was close to a deal with him to release Dawn and Martin but at the last second he cancelled it and walked away.

If you've ever listened to his commentary for Dawn of the Dead, he comes across as a very shrewd businessman and probably thinks that DVDs are still doing big business and wants a fortune for the license.

Considering the history of Dawn in the US, I happily imported the Limited Edition and then the standard edition from the UK. I'm a fan but not a super fan preferred the standard release.

If you need the movie, I wouldn't wait on Rubinstein. Just import it. It's not going to get any better than the Second Sight release.

I can't imagine the numbers the US release would get even with the Second Sight release out there. Probably would be the best seller of the year.

I missed the window to import it at a fair price. Damn pandemic made me forget about movie releases.

I mean $39 USD isn't cheap but you get several discs and solid packaging. Plus, being a UK import, there's the extra fee baked in.

Still a very fair price for what you are getting if you like the movie.

The $100+ for the LE was the easiest money I've ever spent. I wouldn't think twice about $39 for the standard. I can't conceive of a world where a hypothetical Region A release would outdo the Second Sight version.

Just the trio of soundtrack CDs included in the deluxe package made this a must. Easiest $95 I ever spent.

Oh Yes. I also loved the novelization and the huuuuge booklet. This release is a dream come true for fans of this masterpiece.
