Does anyone know anything about these releases in regards to Dawn & Day?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blu-Ray-Auth...e+dead+blu+ray

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Day-Dead-Dua...e+dead+blu+ray

I'm thinking of ordering these but if anyone could possibly give me some information on these releases that would be greatly appreciated.

No idea why it was cropped but it is.

Here's some good examples of what I'm on about regarding the cropping:

The network is the bad disc, not the optimum

That Dawn is the Aussie Umbrella release I've been wittering on about. Same AV encode as the OOP Arrow version plus a good bunch of extras.

Day looks to be the standard Arrow version without the swag of the limited edition, which took the same underlying video master as the Anchor Bay (not great to begin with) and stretched it slightly from 1.85 to 1.78. Me no likey.

Doesn't look stretched, but the Anchor Bay does look vertically squashed. Scream Factory looks almost identical to Arrow's besides the colors.

How does it?

It doesn't have the waxy texture of the previous releases, nor does it have the weird green/blue push.

It's better than what Night and Dawn got on Blu-ray.

Bah, I don't like the AB version of Day in any case. It may be heresy to say so but I prefer the Shout transfer, it's just a shame that the audio is buggered every which way. The original 2.0 has some nasty sibilance, whereas the 5.1 (not included on the Shout) has much cleaner dialogue BUT it's the slightly edited version. Again, both are symptoms of Rubinstein's cheap-ass handling of the movie's assets.

They all look crap, it can look better.
Screams usual encoding and colour choices do not help it

Crap isn't the word.

Night looks good except for a few framing issues and the fact that the 1.85:1 and 1.66:1 versions aren't available is a disgrace.

Dawn doesn't look bad, it could definitely be improved on but not what I'd consider crap.

Day got a good release from Scream Factory with color timing more accurate to the original source. The AB master was from the Divimax days where the color timing was off on a lot of their releases and incorrect blanket filters were applied, this shouldn't be used as a reference for how the film originally looked.

Besides the compression issues that most don't seem to notice, this is a solid release.

Where is your proof it looks like the source?
I don't do didactic lectures thanks

Even if you look at Day of the Dead you should be able to see that the colors of the Divimax master look unnatural and obscure extra detail.
Stills!! Lol

Cropping aside, the Japanese NOTLD blu-ray is probably vastly superior to SF's Day of the Dead blu-ray. The thought of it being inferior is just laughable.

Unless you're referring to the remake's blu-ray, which does look like garbage with the weird color changes.

I completely disagree. It each and every shot on Caps a holic, I prefer the colour of the Anchor Bay disc. They're both completely different transfers with an even level of detail, the Anchor Bay having too much processing and the Shout encoded like crap. I side with the Anchor Bay because the colour just looks more natural.

I was so extremely disappointed when I saw what Shout's new master for Day was actually like. With a little more care in the encoding and grading, it could and should have been better.

I know that, but the JP NOTLD has quite the beast of an encode, which is enough to for it to trump the BD releases of the other films in the series altogether.

I too would love for a NOTLD blu-ray that has multiple aspect ratios, but for the foreseeable future, i'm pretty happy with the JP blu-ray.

Because not seeing old Divimax masters as accurate is illogical? Do you hate the Lionsgate Evil Dead II Blu-ray because the colors are different to the AB one?

Were you one of those people who lambasted the new Halloween Blu-ray because it was missing the orange filter?

Also, in Day of the Dead, the film is supposed to take place in a fairly exotic sunny location. On the Divimax master, everything looks incredibly cold and all the colors are muted. Also, the skin tones are off. In some scenes the living people actually look like the zombies in Dawn.

Honestly, that's just a good case to have both in hand. Perhaps you should edit together both and have all of the exterior shots use the SF transfer and everything in the underground base use the AB transfer. That probably would be the best representation of the movie overall IMO.
