He's also burned bridges with Arrow and Shout so I doubt it will happen from them. As you mentioned the the timing is going to get worse as these labels are going to offer less, not more especially after the Second Sight release. I feel like VS could release it, but probably wouldn't make much profit from it, but it would put their name out there even more than it already is. Hell, after 2022 and 2023 I'd actually even trust Severin to do a good release, but I'm not sure if they have more or less of a budget that VS does.

Ok, I’m pretty much accepting that this super nice set won’t come to the US and since I also have that really nice DVD set I was thinking of just getting a cheap copy of any of the cuts on Blu-ray just for hi def viewing. Is there a cheap disc that will play on my US PS5 ?

Thanks all.

The Spanish Blu-Ray is probably the cheapest you can get that's Region A compat...

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Dawn-...lu-ray/145833/

Only has the Argento cut though.

Back of the case says PAL, not sure if I can play that. Thanks though.

If you only have a PS, you won't be able to.
If you are 4K able, the 4K discs are region free. The bonus BD will still be region locked though. Not sure if PAL/NTSC factors in, depends how the BD was mastered. If it just took old SD clips and did nothing to them, it probably will still be in PAL format so you'd need a RF player that also converts. If they have been upscaled to fake HD, then you won't have to convert. On the bright side, nearly every region free player does convert PAL to NTSC. It won't factor on the movie discs as those will be 1080P at least, so just have get around the region code.

That's probably for the special features. I doubt they'll play on your PS5, but the movie should. The back of the case says Region ABC.

Youtube also has a few uploads of the new 4K master in excellent quality.

That’s a pretty big caveat…

The listing on this site says the UK BD set is region B locked, and the back of that case says region B.

Unless you are speaking of the Spanish Argento cut, that has been confirmed region free but is only the weakest cut, and not much of an upgrade. The Second Sight UK set is locked on blu, but free on 4K (except the features BD, which is locked for sure, I tried it). The 4K is a massive upgrade, easily the best it's ever looked at home. The PAL thing is for the features no doubt, as there is no PAL or NTSC if HD. If you try to play the features on a region A player, it will just put you back on the menu like my Return of the Living Dead from the UK does (also PAL features except for one doc and the movie itself).

My advice is get a cheap 4K player and the 4K set. It will still look great on a 1080p TV, just not as great as on a 4K set (but probably still slightly better than the BDs). Then you'll be "future-proofed" for when you do get a 4K set.

Yes, I am glad I have it on DVD, but it really doesn't come close to the original Romero cut.

It’s interesting as a curiosity, just to see how editing can shape a movie for different markets/cultures, but it’s the cut I reach for the least of the main 3 by far.

Well the one advantage is any American company that gets the rights to the film can just take partnership with Second Sight, use their masters, and their newly created bonus materials. They’d have to license out any pre-existing bonus material.

I don’t see what else can really be done. Second Sight set the bar extremely high. Where do you go? Create a Dolby Vision grade? Remix the audio into Atmos? Maybe try to convince the Italian distributor to provide a better master of the Argento cut and/or create the HDR grade with their blessing? Include a 3D Blu-ray?

Wow, this is news to me... you can hook up a 4K player to a regular 1080P tv and still play 4K discs?!

Shows how much attention I've been paying to 4K. I just might end up doing this...

Yeah. You won't get the full 4K benefits, but you can watch them. They will just be down-converted to 1080p. You could probably hook it up to an old tube TV if you had some convertor from HDMI to co-ax or whatever jacks that old set has.

Yea, I did this for several months. Grabbed an OPPO 203 when they announced the company was getting out of the 4K player game. Hooked it up to my Panny Plasma and several year old Denon receiver. I only had a couple of 4K discs at the time, but knew I was going to eventually go that route. Worked just fine until I finally upgraded my TV and receiver

Yep, did the same thing. Started buying UHD Blu-rays well before I switched to newer equipment. Funny thing is, most if not almost all the UHD Blu-ray discs I watched as regular HD, I haven't gone back to watch them in 4K! Well not yet! Too busy with too many newer ones.

This gets asked lots I'm sure, so sorry in advance, but do the two 4k UK versions work in the US?

I'd be happy with just a regular version in 4K, but I can't find anything

Second Sight’s Dawn of the Dead (1978) 4K discs are region free. The bonus Blu-Ray is Region B locked. The blu-ray features all the special features.

This release, is the three cuts on three separate discs and the Blu-Ray featuring the special features.
