I could possibly be convinced to buy a Criterion set of Dawn, if it's like that Region B one everybody raves about.

I do have the nice DVD set to hold me over, all I would really need is a Blu of one of the cuts of Dawn just so I have something to watch in Hi-def.

The Second Sight release is absolutely stunning. I don’t see how it could get any better.

Honestly, the only thing stopping me from buying that is the region-locked bonus features disc. The extensive extras look like one of the best parts of that release. I wouldn’t probably bit the bullet by this point, but I have a feeling something’s going to be finally happening here soon.

Boggles my mind how some people are into physical media enough to register and post here, but not own a region free player.

I don't own a region free player. All the films I want eventually hit region A...patience is key for me.

This again? Literally, I can count the problems it’s given me on one hand (this being one of them). Especially now with UHDs becoming more standard, I have even fewer reasons to get one. Everything I want will and has eventually come out on Region A or UHD, or has a region free Blu-ray somewhere overseas. I own almost 1300 discs. I’m fine.

Seems like nearly every thread devolves into this and it is quite tiresome. It wouldn't matter if 100% of the forum members were region free, we aren't the only people that buy movies and Dawn of the Dead and Martin are classics that have been unavailable in the US for well over a decade and a half, and need to be available for everyone to buy, regardless of whether or not they are region free (or have UHD players).

Films, or really any art form, become irrelevant by being unavailable to the wider audience.

You could be waiting a very long time for a region A release, if Rubenstein has anything to say about it

I don't think anyone here is trolling anybody about getting a region free player, or 4k player. We're just here to make some helpful suggestions. Nobody twisted my arm, when I bought my players. I just saw what I was missing out on.

Sure everyone can hope, and wait for a region A release. But, you could be waiting for something that never comes. But, why wait, when it's already available.

I agree. Any other release of this title would have to be noticeably superior before replacing the one I already have.

I recently revisited Romero's Dead films and gave my Blu-rays a first spin - besides Dawn, which I just re-viewed the extended cut from the Anchor Bay DVD set. Gotta say, it looked pretty good for a DVD. It'll easily hold me over until a new release - or forever.

I'm region free, but it's exactly this that makes me question if I should have even bothered with it.

Not sure how you can equate someone saying movie lovers shouldn't limit themselves on what movies they can purchase to be haters. It would be more logical to say the opposite.

Kind of ironic that, of all movies, this one about rampant consumerism is the one tied up in anti-consumer practices.

The problem lies with rights holders being greedy.

Rubinstein made a piss poor business decision by spending almost eight figures post-converting Dawn of the Dead into 3D. Due to that, he wants top dollar for anyone in the US to license out the film. While the situation is easier now (label partners with Second Sight to license out the encodes), it’s still a tough business call if a lot of potential buyers have already purchased the Second Sight release. How many of those owners based locally double dip? Besides being Region A locked, how do you already improve upon what most believe is the best release the film has received?

There’s a slew of Fox titles that were never made available in Region A (looking at you Shock Treatment) that are now OOP in Region B due to the Disney buyout and will probably never see the light of day on Blu-ray in the States.

Don’t get me wrong. I 100% agree with your sentiment. However, there are some films that will never see the light of day in the US due to the business of things. 4K is region free (for 99% of titles), however, there are some that are Blu-ray only and will only be available in their Region B locked form.

Worst case scenario, purchase a Panasonic player and pray to God that the disc can be bypassed using the Top Menu trick.

I really don't disagree with anything you are saying here. But, I will say, in terms of Dawn of the Dead, I think it is safe to assume everyone here knows about the Second Sight release, and bringing it up in discussions about a possible US re-release from some label doesn't really add much at this time (and I will go on the record now and say I don't think the hint on the Night of the Living Dead Facebook group was for Dawn and/or Martin.)

I think for some, the only way to double dip would probably be some new features and having the 3-D release version.

I still think it's insane that Dawn doesn't have a US release in circulation as it's probably one of the biggest horror films of all time. (It's my personal favorite) I know some labels refuse to work with Rubenstein after he broke some good faith, and they are some pretty big labels.

On the subject of what could be added to appeal to buyers who already imported that Second Sight version, for starters the 3D version as there always seems to be folks interested in that (I never got into it, but I know there's demand).

And also, is there any other alternate cut that has yet to be included on a physical release?

Maybe they could take a note from Once Upon a Deadpool and make a PG-13 cut
