Criterion would never top Second Sight’s, so nothing to see here.

The ONLY thing they could maybe add is new extras. Other than that, the Second Sight release is the definitive release.

Doesn't matter if they top it or not. As someone who doesn't import this would be huge news.

It's not even "importing" at this point. You can get it on amazon for 50 shipped. I know people seem to be adverse to "importing" but anyone with an amazon account get get this in their hands by the end of the weekend.

For me personally, it's not an accessibility thing, or even a money thing, but a mental disorder thing which prevents me from getting import releases.

The closest you're going to get is the Extended Mall Hours Cut, which compiles nearly all the cuts together. The issue being the music is different in all 3 cuts, so there technically can never be an "official" one, and Criterion wouldn't include one anyways as it has never officially existed.

I get what you're saying though.

Aren't there some artifacts from the scanner that Second Sight used? A fresh scan would fix that (not that I'd expect a new scan, or, again think that Dawn is what is being teased here.)

I don't have a region free player so having a Criterion disc would top it for me so I can watch those region locked Blu Ray discs with all the extras. Also, a $25 Criterion is half the price the Second Sight disc goes for... another plus IMO.

Whoa whoa!! Watch it, Jtu128, according to some on here you really shouldn't be posting on these forums if you're not region free haha. Many agree that it 'boggles' the mind haha.

Yeah, I'd buy a Criterion with a "supercut", I've kinda lost my taste for a lot of special features, I'd rather have the option of watching different versions of the film.

That was one of the alternate cuts from a different source with an issue, I don't remember which or what problem. The theatrical cut is not affected.

My brother owns the Second Sight edition, so if Criterion releases Dawn in the US I'll likely pick it up. Not like we haven't bought various versions between the both of us.

At the end of the day, yes, the Second Sight release if fantastic, but this is one of the most iconic horror films of all time. It should be in circulation with the most up to date scan in both physical and streaming in the US. I honestly don't think it's coming, but there is always a slight chance and the one label that probably could make it happen is Criterion.

The grid pattern in the highlights? That's definitely on the theatrical cut's scan.

That's what I was thinking of, but couldn't remember what the issue was. Thanks.

Ah right, I'd completely misremembered. I'd commented on this ages ago even! I personally never noticed when watching though the issue is apparently there.

IIRC there was another issue in regards to one of the alternate cuts (which is what I was thinking of) but I don't (yet again) recall what it was.

Anyone can do whatever they want. But I couldn't imagine limiting myself on what movies I can watch.

Also, 4K is 99% region Free. So yeah, your point is kinda useless.

Cool, you just focus on what makes you happy, buddy. That's the important thing. I'm perfectly happy with the amount of movies (its a lot! ...please let August be a slow month lol!), that hit my doorstep each and every month throughout the year.
