The dp approved grade on the second sight disc is bizarrely cold w an over emphasis on blues greens and purples, dawns never looked like that before and neither has any other film of that vintage. Just my opinion though, the disc is absolutely worth getting but not quite deserving of the hagiographies it’s received

Guess he doesn't like the color timing of the Second Sight set...

That is my number one complaint about 4ks - how they handle color. Ironically, the ones with HDR have the most jarring effect on me. I have a hard time believing these old films were meant to have vibrant colors that pop out of the screen. Just my perspective.

The Second Sight version looks more blue hued than the red hue of the Anchor Bay edition.

I don't mind the cool colors of the 4K at all. After all, the film was shot between the Fall and Winter seasons in Pennsylvania.

People are always recommending to find a happy medium. However, my experience with people who communicate with the dead is that they are typically not a cheerful group.

This. Also, in many daytime outdoor scenes you can see the actors' breath. So the cooler look absolutely suits the film imo.

Lol!
But the real million dollar question is, "would a happy medium be able to communicate with Romero and find out if he's happy with the Second Sight transfer"?

The bigger question is if thst is a revisionist take or if that was the intent of the original theatrical release and if the color timing for some prints was not correct. I’m all for authenticity with a scene shot during colder weather. It certainly could fit the film but (granted my memory is hazy on this given that it’s been decades since I saw it in theaters never mind if the print had the correct color timing) I don’t recall the film ever having that stand out.

It does look nice though.

Monroeville Mall owner puts shopping complex up for sale

https://triblive.com/business/monroe...x-up-for-sale/

The Monroeville Mall has been listed for sale. For any horror fans out there who have never visited the mall, now is probably a good time to make plans. Their annual Living Dead Weekend is in June and they do tours of the entire mall, including the back areas that still look identical to the film.

If it sells, who knows if it will remain a mall, repourposed or just torn down.

Last sale price in 2004 was 231million, cant imagine what it'd be now with inflation/etc.

Does anyone know if there is any significant difference in content or media quality between the "Dawn of the Dead DVD Divimax Edition" when compared to the "Dawn of the Dead DVD Divimax Holo-Foil Edition" (aside from the fancy shiny foil cover)? I realize this is the blu-ray thread and not DVD, but I couldn't find a DVD-specific thread that seemed at least somewhat active. Thanks.

After years of indecision I finally hit the buy button. It’s $32 on eBay for the standard Second Sight 4k release at the moment. I think this is the cheapest I’ve ever seen it drop for a new copy. I sold by Anchor Bay Blu Ray for $27 nearly 9 years ago.

The only difference is that shiny cover, same disc inside both. The foil ones were the first release, then they went cheaper on future printings.
