Ah yes, that looks more like the "cofanetto" edition which was also announced. The excitement's starting to creep up on me and we're still 2 months from release!

And the cover isn't super-sacrilegious if you think about it, as although the colour is a sop to the Winding Refn title it's got more in common with the original than we might think:

Currently playing theatrically in Europe. No word yet on the BD release date. I'd assume that whenever it is released on disc stateside, a 4K version would be piggy-backed on it. My guess is that the flat 2D version you're discussing will just be the 2 hr, 6 min version since the new scan was probably done just for the conversion purposes. And, given the cost of the conversion, I doubt they'd spend even more money just for extended editions.

Rubenstein has been trying to get this done since 2007! So he's happy to have finally achieved his goal. From an interview a couple years back:
“It is proving to be more 3D-friendly than many films, because George’s style was to compose within the frame, rather than across frames,” Rubenstein said. “That means there is a lot of action within each frame, from front to back, and it makes the conversion process more friendly. It’s like you’re moving the audience closer to the movie. What I didn’t want to do is not edit anything George did in his original movie, and nothing has been altered in this process,”

It's playing at Beyond Fest here in L.A. I might try to get tickets now.

If you go, be sure to post your impressions here. Probably too much to expect a BD date at the screening.

I don't see a blue hockey mask covered in pasta sauce in that poster?

Don't be so literal, it's more the composition of the upper half of a head drippings with pasta sauce goo looming over the title that I was referring to.

I don't even get the pasta sauce comment. If anything the over the top oozing red blood is the only thing that actually fits perfectly with the movie itself!

It looks like a mask covered in red and blue "liquid stuff". Kind of like they want it to echo Neon Demon or something...

Will do. We're already seeing Raw that night and it's playing right after, so hopefully I can talk my husband into one more show.

Original poster = head with EXPOSED FLESH

New poster = mask with ADDED SAUCE

Yes exactly. Real blood is DARK DARK RED. That is Prego red (chunky)

Or maybe a paintball mask? I honestly think the studio pasted the wrong image on the wrong title and this belongs in "Paintball Wars" or something

Cracked egg head has been updated to boiled egg head in purgatory (the radioactive recipe). That's what I see.

While Refn is one of my favorite working directors, I don't really like having his name that prominent on the cover of a 70s zombie film... it feels odd.
And "Dario Argento's Zombi"... i don't know. So he produced and edited it in this version but it's still Romero's... not to mention the red mask thing looks stupid and unfitting.
So to sum it up: I hate that cover
