Oh, right. I wasn't aware/had clean forgotten that you'd said that, in which case it makes perfect sense.

Default Dawn of the Dead (1978) ★★

Watched for the 1st time tonight & it just was not my 'cup of tea'. It was dull, too campy & had no life for me.

I blind-bought these, The Return Of The Living Dead, Day Of The Dead & Night Of The Living Dead 1990 so I hope these are better. I did enjoy the 1968 Night Of The Living Dead.

I would like to see a more serious form of the Dead series though.

I thought I was the only person who didn't like this movie. I Don't get the big deal with it at all. I love Romero's Night of the living dead, Day of the dead and Land of the dead. I even love the Dawn of the dead remake but I just cannot get into the original Dawn of the dead. I've given it 3 tries.

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum, fellow.

I absolutely loathe the remake. While I initially disliked 28 Days Later, I watched it again (alongside its sequel) many many years later upon getting the double feature and was far more impressed with it than I originally was.

DOTD 2004, however, I probably will hate it as much as I did the first time around. I get what Snyder and company were trying to do in contrast to the original, but it just doesn't work for me.

Rob Galluzzo reports on the premier of the 3D conversion of DAWN
Quote:
After the screening, there was a brief Q & A about the movie, but we still didn’t get any sort of confirmation of what Rubenstein plans to do with this 3D conversation. He hinted that there is a company that does stellar work with Blu-Ray “collector’s editions” that is interested in putting it out, but he wants to aim for a theatrical release.

I liked the remake. One of the very, very, few that I can say that about.

I loved Romero's Dawn, but in some ways I liked Day better. But for social commentary, the setting in the mall while not subtle is epic.

Unless they offer the US a similar release like the Ultimate Collection DVD on blu-ray, that's exactly what I'm going to do.

So that's Shout then? Rubinstein's holding onto the rights so tightly his knuckles must be white, but it is what it is: he needs a theatrical run to make a dent in the hefty conversion cost. Pity no-one asked if the movie had been remastered from the negative prior to the conversion, I hope they didn't use that same ratty CRI element we've seen for years.

Day is the one I dislike. It just has way too much talking and the setting is not as good either.

I also thought of Shout/Scream. Shout is a big enough company to pay Rubinstein's asking price.

Not what he was asking when they obtained Day. He may need to make a deal with Shout in order to recoup some of the money spent on this 3D conversion.

That Rubinstein guy is such an idiot. I like the section where the writer says "this is a special event since it hasn't been playing in any theaters, cause he wants way too much money for theatrical exhibition." I wish he would have done some research on who exactly WANTED a 3d conversion. If he won't let it play in any theaters and won't let it be released unless people pay out the nose, how the hell is he ever going to recoup expenses? He could AT LEAST give out the theatrical rights for cheap and just ask for a higher percentage of the gross. I mean, even if it was wide release, I think it would have serious trouble grossing enough for him personally to see 6 million dollars, but in these tiny exhibitions he'll never even make 1 million dollars.

Kind of reminds me of the recent exchanges about old DVDs in the Code Red thread

So Fandango has a page for Dawn of the Dead 3D. I got an e-mail for some locations in Michigan and can buy tickets for October 26th, too bad I don't live there lol. More to come? Can't seem to find anything else on it yet.

Well I do, ha ha. Despite my stance against 3D converting a movie not shot with 3D in mind I can't pass up an opportunity to see my favorite movie in the theater.

I preordered the Italian set. I hope there's going to be a review before it ships so I can cancel if it turns out to be nothing more than a "decent" upgrade. For the price, this needs to be mind-blowing.

I'd never bothered to seek out the the cuts in HD so it's win-win for me.

Midnight Factory had a fan contest for 5 postcards to included on their set of "Dawn of the Dead" , finally Nicolas Winding Refn made his choice for the winners, here the result :

I also sent my work on contest, but no winner for me ...
my postcard (Roger on bed) is on comments with my name Francesco Domenico Guerrazzi
