Welp, it's settled. Time to head over to 220 electronics and finally pull the trigger on a region free blu after simply holding the gun in my hand for probably the last 2 years lol.

Dammit, I think you might be right. We've had a good run though.

I know our reluctance has been inexplicable to some, but for me, it's simply been a matter of, "I already own a terrific player that works great, I already spend a mint on blu-rays, I don't really need an excuse to spend still more money."

Having a region-free player may open up the floodgates good an' proper, which has always been my main concern.

My copy is already in NY - might have it in my hands by Monday. This looks the definitive release anywhere in the world - for now.

I went ahead and 'future-proofed' by getting the 4K edition. $49.10 shipped.

It was eight Euros less in September, guess I should have either ordered earlier, or waited for the price to drop down again!

Or, judging by the reports of botched encoding, avoided ordering it all together.

Owners of the disc claim this encoding issue is not visible in motion - and there's all 3 versions to choose from in HD too. No other release offers that at the moment

What? My Japanese box-set that has the 3 cuts in HD, and the Italian box-set uses the Japanese encodes for the theatrical and extended cuts.

Just had a quick skim view of the new 4K restoration and, bloody wow.

I do not have the Japanese set, but by hell this is the very best i have seen the theatrical version look.

(Fortunately?) I don't own the disc, but I've been reading of several issues about this disc here:
http://dvd.forumcommunity.net/?t=59186104&st=105

Virtually every comment refers to a kind of "flickering" of the grain in motion and a problematic image stability (inherent to the source, I guess). Some even wrote about some obvious dithering and light DNR filters applied.
There seems to be even some sequences where dialogues randomly switch from a speaker to another.
I'd definitely wait for some news from the label regarding replacements.

From what others say you now have 2/3 of the Japanese set. I maintain that versus the awful ghosting of the AB/Arrow discs the JP theatrical cut disc is a revelation, despite the limitations of the source CRI. I have never regretted going in for it, and I'm excited to see this new IT disc of Zombi, especially the open matte disc, even if I think it's a relatively awful cut of the movie.

I've never seen the Happinet masters, so between them and the 4K resto of the Argento cut I'm gonna feel like a hog in a waller. Didn't get mine yet though, damn you tele!!

The Argento version was eventually sold on its own in region A on dvd, is anything legally preventing it from being sold that way on blu? Or are we just assuming region A gets nothing until the Rubinstein stuff is worked out?
