I wish I had bought the Arrow release as I just found out that the Anchor Bay release suffers from a quite strong dust busting and I'm not talking about noise reduction here. The settings was set so high that it even removed tons of speculars and created some ugly artifacts as shown on these screenshots from caps-a-holic.

Arrow Films

Anchor Bay

- Look at Fran's pants, just over her right foot, you'll see a specular light disapear in the Anchor Bay screenshot.

- Look at Fran's hair too, there's clearly an artifact on the back of her hairs.

- Look in the fountain, hundreds of specular lights converted into artifacts.

They're both from the same shitty underlying transfer that's got dreadful smearing problems with movement. They've both had separate dirt reduction passes, the AB having some noticeable artefacts, BUT because it's softer than the Arrow release the smeary noise reduction isn't as bad, so I still prefer the AB.

Any news on someone else picking up the rights?
I know that either Shout or Arrow recently talked about it being a confusing rights issue currently. An announcement of a new rights holder could be soon.

I'm still waiting for what would pretty much be a HD version of the Ultimate Edition DVD.

Until then, I'm holding on to said DVD...

That is an awesome set. I still have it even after buying the bd.

Amazon 3rd parties are trying to sell the bd for nearly $70 and the Ultimate Edition DVD set for $299 sealed. Crazy.

I guess the good thing about it being OOP is that hopefully whoever picks up the rights will remaster it. I have my doubts though.

Same here. That Ultimate Edition DVD is fantastic and I would love the longer version of the film on Blu-ray.

I passed on the Dawn BR in hopes of the Ultimate Edition getting released. I'd be willing to shell out quite a bit for it.

Here's what Arrow wrote me on December 19th.

"Hi Danny, we lost the rights to this one a couple years back so it won't be coming from us we are afraid."

Here's what Shout Factory wrote me on December 16th.

"We don't have the rights to that one."

Here's what Anchor Bay wrote to me on January 5th.

"Thank you for your inquiry and your interest in Anchor Bay Entertainment. Unfortunately, our rights to this title have expired."

Well on the back of several Dawn Of The Dead Collector's items I bought since 2006 (Calendars, Action figures, Playing cards, Postal cards, Posters) there's a New Line logo.

New Line just had a merchandising agreement.

New Amsterdam Entertainment is Richard P. Rubenstein, Dawn Of The Dead's producer. Just sayin'

The original producer of the film (Richard P. Rubinstein) owns the rights through New Amsterdam Entertainment. They are the company that funded the 3D conversion of the film which is expected to be released this year.
