The Japanese Blu Ray is probably the cheapest in terms of Blu Ray you can find right now but the transfer is somewhat underwhelming for the US theatrical cut. The same disc is included in the Italian release. You're better off with the '04 Anchor Bay DVD, which is essentially a downgraded signal of the '07 Blu Ray transfer. This film is just a trainwreck in the HD age.

That is exactly right. Rubenstein thought spending millions to clean up and convert the film to 3D would interest people everywhere. This is my favorite horror film and I love 3D, but I was always luke warm about the idea. What Dawn needs is a proper 4K remaster for each of the three cuts. There is a big market for that, but Rubenstein isn't about to dump more money in this film.

I was hugely disappointed with the 4K release. I believe my Anchor Bay blu might beat it out for quality. The transfer looks dirty, and not in the sense that it has some damage or grain, like it was sourced from a bluray and ran through some filters or something. I am holding out some hope that someone somewhere will be able to convince Rubinstein the market for any release of this film isn't growing astronomically and he needs some sort of realistic expectation about what the licensing is worth.

I agree on the trilogy tho. I like Land a lot but it isn't required. |

The problem Rubenstein is running into is the longer he waits, the less money the boxset will produce. Physical media is a dying industry and its why major studios now have zero qualms licensing their titles out to third-parties which was an extreme rarity during the DVD era. Never will happen. |
