I really hope this does get released because I would love a mint version of it on Blu. Hopefully something like the Ultimate Edition that came out on DVD.

My concern is that neither will physical media. And there's a 3D conversion at play here also, which deserves a home video release. The time to release it was last year.

It’s like the scalpers on eBay, when they put up a sold out/rare item for an insane amount that no one will touch, eventually they have to bring down the asking price or they get stuck with the product. The guy is 70, so it’s probably smarter for him to make his money while he still can.
Sure, but he's managed to hold out for this long with no sign of budging and I doubt he'll have some kind of Scrooge-like epiphany any time soon. And it's not like this is a minor cult classic that some crackpot is asking the world for, it's one of the greatest, most iconic zombie movies ever made and Rubinstein knows it.

Then he’ll die and will have never made a dime on it. That’s his choice, but I would think anyone else would rather make their money while they still can. Either way, the film will see a release. Wether he lowers his price or dies and the rights wind up elsewhere.

LOL yeah, he's made zero dollars off the movie for the past 40 years.

He also owns/owned the "Dune" rights as well. He may be a a**hole, but he's a shrewd businessman. And film is a business. It's funny the people completely bashing him, yet he produced the film, period.

Does he want too much money? Who knows. Are companies getting cheaper due to the dwindling profits on physical (and streaming) media. Yes. Can't really blame one without blaming the other. Just because profits are smaller doesn't mean he should automatically lower his price and make less. Anyone who knows business would know that. Again, doesn't mean anyone has to like it, but he knows the value of his property so why should he give it away for free?

Obviously he’s made money off the film over the 40+ years. What I’m saying is he won’t make any of the money back that he spent on that restoration that everyone is talking about. If he doesn’t make a deal with a label (or release it himself) he loses all that money. That’s what I’m talking about. Anyone who knows business knows that it’s better to make what you can off your product than nothing at all.

Like I said. If he wants to be stubborn and hold it hostage and not make a lose out on all that money, then fine. When he dies, the film is going to get released anyways because all the labels are going to scramble to make a deal with whoever ends up with the rights.

So...she has the rights to these "cult classics" but charges the world for them?

The OOP Anchor Bay release looks and sounds fine. I have no problem watching it until the end of time, BUT: this movie simply deserves a definitve remaster.

Several companies have over the years tried to work out a deal with Mrs. Hart to release the movies she owns, with no success.

Supposedly she still thinks it is like the heyday of DVDs and charges and arm and a leg for them.

She also used to be very active suing anyone one she felt infringed on her rights, which included getting places like eBay to remove the auctions for memorabilia from any of her movies. I don't know whether that is still the case, but I know of several poster collectors who got cease and desist letters from her lawyer.

this is a shame and the number of people that would buy blu-rays of those titles is shrinking every year. very few younger film fans care at all about 50s-early 60s B&W sci-fi movies. a few of those titles are just plain bad (and i love that kind of stuff) and may not have sold all that great even at the height of the DVD. hope she wakes up to this as well as other rights holders that want to much.

Thing is, to my knowledge, she never struck any deals for DVD releases, either. Her prices were probably too high, even back then.

On that topic, Shout did a press release on their facebook not too long ago about how their MST3K sets were done for the forseeable future because of intractable rights issues on the remaining flicks. One of those was I was a Teenage Werewolf! So nope, we're SOL.

Quote:
Ep #201 Rocketship X-M
Ep #212 Godzilla Vs. Megalon
Ep #213 Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster
Ep #309 The Amazing Colossal Man
Ep #311 It Conquered the World
Ep #416 Fire Maidens from Outer Space
Ep #418 The Eye Creatures
Ep #807 Terror from the Year 5000
Ep #809 I Was A Teenage Werewolf
Ep #905 The Deadly Bees
Ep #906 The Space Children
Ep #913 Quest of the Delta Knights

Despite our best efforts to include the remaining unreleased episodes, due to licensing issues, it is very likely that Volume 39 will be the last collection of never-before-released episodes, and that these remaining episodes may never get a legitimate release. With this in mind, we decided the next best option was to release the remaining host segments by themselves.

At the end of the day it's just a movie. Movies should not be the number 1 priority in your life. Your family should.

And all these pot shots being taken at him because he wont release this film the way you want it wont change a thing. You say he's 70 and wont live much longer? How old are all of you? I'm willing to be at least 40 years old. Think about what is important in your life. Family should be at the top. Then your health. Then money. Then a job. Not a 40 year old film that you already own 10 times over.
