I wonder if Vampires will last until November preorders go up? Not really one I want but at $20 I can't complain.

I jumped in on one of those group buys for the bundle sale last week, so that I could get The Disappearance for the low price. The Blu-ray arrived in the mail yesterday.

I'm looking forward to checking this one out. I get the impression that The Disappearance is an enigmatic movie, based on the reviews, but it also seems like a fun slice of 1970s goodness.

October is a standout month from TT (for this dude anyway). I'll happily order The Chase, Charlotte, and Boxcar Bertha during the next sale (plus I'm digging the covers for all three, which is not usually how I respond to TT art). Runaway Train and especially The Train are excellent films, but I've already got 'em.

Where do people find the remaining number of copies left? I don't see anything on TT's or SAE's sites, unless I'm just missing it.

Hard to say. With Halloween coming up and the reduced price, you might not want to risk it if it's one you really want. Sometimes the last few copies go fast - who knew High Time would sell out so quickly when it went on sale?

It IS a very enigmatic movie. It plays very much like a European arthouse film. For anyone else reading in, I wouldn't say it's a "fun slice" in the sense that it's an exciting spy thriller, but I get what YOU mean. It's "fun" in that it's kind of perplexing and keeps its hand close to the chest for much of the movie. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. (It's got a fantastic cast too.)

Yeah, Disappearance isn't an upbeat film nor a crowd-pleaser, but for lovers of the strange corners of 1970s cinema it's one of the real gems in the TT library. Definitely in my top 5 favorite releases of theirs--in part because of the intriguing multiple cuts, in part because it's a film they highlighted from my favorite era that I was previously unaware of, but largely because of its unique setting and mood/tone.

Thanks for the write-up! I'm pretty much expecting something that is a puzzling mystery for most of its duration.

It's not really a puzzling mystery or anything like that either. It's just a really talkie movie and slow paced. Saw it for the first time the other night (blind buy).

Considering the other titles are already on sale for $10 as part of the bundles at SAE, this is the one gem of this sale. An Oscar winning classic down to $15.

I agree with you that it's the gem of that set of titles, by any measure. But for anyone who wants one (or two, or three) of the others, but can't fill out a 7-title bundle, they're getting a bargain as well.

I love both movies but when Fright Night sells out twice (and if they sold it again it would probably sell out in a few days) and they have to drop the price on Guess Who's Coming to Dinner to move stock.....seriously, what's considered a classic anymore?

My point is you seem to be making a point that is evidence of some flaw in society, but it's not. I saw Dinner once a long time ago and it was good, but I feel no need to own it. Fright Night is something I would watch a bunch of times, so I want a copy. That is why genre stuff tends to sell better. It's not something to be cynical or pretentious about.

Not being either. I may be old school but to me it's just sad that a lot of the movies I grew up with don't hold the same appeal today. I want as many pre-70's movies out on bd as we can get but the desire to watch these movies (let alone want to own them) is dwindling. I must have gone to the same old school as you. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? is a special film to me too.

I did a quick search without being able to find any threads dedicated to Gene Wilder, so my apologies if this isn't the appropriate place to write this, but I know that many of you are fans of older, classic films ... so hopefully it's okay. (If not, I'll take the post down).

This is a very late notice but ... TCM is dedicating tonight to Gene Wilder films. Young Frankenstein just started about 20 minutes ago as of this writing, which will be followed by Role Model: Gene Wilder, Start The Revolution Without Me, The Frisco Kid and Bonnie and Clyde. A lot of old movies have huge appeal amongst cinephiles. That doesn't mean that they're all great and while DINNER is regarded as a classic it's also a typical Kramer "message" movie that gets a bit overbearing at times. The Train is a fifty year old movie that's being re-released because the first release sold out in a month.

I would agree. I don't frequent this thread that often, but I've enjoyed the heck out of titles like Heaven Knows Mr. Allison, The Young Lions, The Man From Laramie, etc. Each of those films have stars in them, but I have to admit that I hadn't heard of them prior to Twilight Time. With Mitchum, Brando, Clift, and Stewart, it seems that we mostly hear about the obvious titles.

I don't really know if some of these movies are better than the average modern Hollywood production starring, say, Brad Pitt, but I've really enjoyed seeing those old stars do their thing. Bring on more! I hadn't heard of The Keys to the Kingdom, but will want to see that one now, too!
