Model Shop was Jacques Demy's US-set sequel to Lola with Anouk Aimee. In Agnes Varda's documentary The World of Jacques Demy there's a long section on the film and interview with the actor who was originally cast as the male lead before Columbia insisted on Gary Lockwood because they were absolutely adamant there was no way Harrison Ford would ever be a star... and then dumped the picture on the drive-in double-bill circuit anyway.
It's an intriguing lineup. I'll admit, I had to look up Blue Denim and No Down Payment. Obviously April is troubled relationships month at TT. ![]() |

Awesome! I was just thinking about "Auto Focus" the other day. I remember when it played a theater near me back in late 2002, my wife and I went, and we were the only ones in the screening, on its opening Friday night. It left theaters very quickly. I always felt that this was an under-appreciated title, that is ripe for rediscovery. Didn't think it would see a blu anytime soon. Well worth seeing.

I recommend these sale titles for various reasons....
Audrey Rose is a very 70s suspense film that features a strong performance by one of our best actors, Anthony Hopkins. Robert Wise directs, and Marsha Mason and the child actor also very good. Carla's Song stars Robert Carlyle, whom some of us know today as Mr. Gold on Once Upon a Time. A sometimes tragic love story in a war torn land. Features an audio commentary by the director. Mindwarp to me is one of those sci fi horror movies that is so bad that it's good. Bloody beyond belief, it's a shocker that's worth the trip for those with a strong stomach and a taste for the twisted. It is strangely funny, imho, in a cringe-worthy way. The Secret of Santa Vittoria is a charming and dramatic World War II movie by the great Stanley Kramer. Score by Ernest Gold. Strong performances by Anthony Quinn and others. Depending on your tastes, I think these movies are well worth it at the amazing sale price of $7. |

Just checked the spoiler filled trailer for Blue Denim, and will definitely be picking that up. The Joan Crawford narration looks to be on the set of The Best of Everything (which I loved), so I’ll take that as my sign. Always have a soft spot for those 1950’s melodramas.
Auto Focus doesn’t really seem to be of interest to me as I couldn’t care any less about Bob “Colonel Hogan” Crane’s personal life. However, being a Willem Dafoe co-starring film that’s directed by Paul Schrader, it’s probably much better than I’m giving it credit for. Will probably pick that one up too. Anybody know if the TT release of Auto Focus will be the R rated version, where the videos shown on the TV (most of them, anyway) are blurred out? The region 2 DVD releases do NOT include the blurring, and I've also seen it on cable without as well.
