Ever since Twilight Time started their business, they've been putting out titles in my wheelhouse ... which is why I have so many of them. I can't keep up watching as much as I buy, but also can't resist the titles they offer. Such a nice dilemma. ![]() |

I watched the BD of "X, Y and Zee", my first watch from my sale order. The film is a deliriously campy, over-the-top melodrama featuring Elizabeth Taylor at her most entertaining. Playing the wife of wealthy architect Robert Blakely (Michael Caine), Taylor screams, insults, drinks, and generally is a human wrecking ball throughout the film's 108-minute running time. Caine's marriage to Zee (Taylor) is in complete shambles, as he struggles to get through even the most basic interactions with his shameless wife. This leads to Caine turning to an extra-marital affair with kind, thoughtful boutique owner Stella (Susannah York).
There's not a ton of plot to speak of, as the film essentially follows the pattern of Caine having discussions with York about leaving Taylor, Taylor acting like a complete maniac, and Caine not being able to go through with leaving her out of guilt/regret. Caine also manages to squeeze in some sex with his young secretary and York and Taylor manage to generate a lesbian subplot. This is a film designed for those viewers who are highly amused by unabashed camp. Taylor, of course, is the star of the show, completely embracing her role with total abandon. York doesn't have a ton to do, but is a warm, interesting screen presence as always. Caine is worth talking about in this film because he gives the type of performance that popped up here and there in the late 60s and early 70s for him. You can see similar performances from him in "The Magus" and "Deadfall". In the film, Caine is incredibly subdued, even sedated, for much of the running time. However, on occasion, he will explode with a burst of rage so intense and so unexpected that it simply adds to the camp factor. There is one scene where he loses his mind with his secretary that had me laughing quite hard. Directed by Brian G. Hutton, "X, Y and Zee" won't be for everyone. But if you enjoy campy melodramas played with zero shame, then this is a film well-worth picking up while it's on sale. |

There were a couple of Kritzerland CDs I wanted to pick up at 40% off during the SAE sale, so I padded my order with five additional Twilight Time titles. This brought my order to more than $99, which allowed me to get six months' worth of zero percent financing through PayPal Credit. Here's what I picked up on this second sale order:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm especially looking forward to revisiting Yanks. I went to see it in the theatre when it first opened, and enjoyed it, particularly the performances of Vanessa Redgrave and William Devane; then some friends of mine thought they might like it, so I went with them for a second viewing; and a couple of weeks later my family decided to see it, and I went again with them. It will be great to see whether or not it has aged well. And I've long been curious to see Leslie Caron's Golden Globe-winning, BAFTA-winning, Oscar-nominated performance in The L Shaped Room. |

Really trying to stop myself from placing a third order...do I really need to spend $40+ on Model Shop and The Keys of the Kingdom?
![]() Maybe I’ll wait until the next sale so The Tall Men and Whirlpool will hopefully be discounted as well... |

![]() ![]() TT isn't a label I follow that closely, so I didn't know they were having a sale until I happened to see earlier that Sword of Sherwood Forest was only a super nice $14.95. I've been curious about it since it was announced almost a year ago. Being a Hammer film with Peter Cushing and Richard Greene, and directed by Terence Fisher, it seemed very promising, but I just don't blind buy that often. However, at that price I couldn't pass it up, so I snagged myself a copy. Can't wait to check it out. |

Does anyone know how customs is handled for a Screen Archives order to the UK?
Is it through Royal Mail or a private courier? Do I have to pay online with a notification card through the post, or can I pay a courier at the door? Thanks for your help. |
