I know a lot of people are excited about The Fury and Chirstine, but I do recommend picking up The Egyptian before it is gone. Pricy, but worth it. A very nice presentation for a really good classic film. This was my first TT title.

He's recorded dozens (?) of high-spirited and informative commentaries, as well as being an enthusiastic yet scholarly presence in many documentaries. He's probably my favorite genre historian and 'personality'.

THE EGYPTIAN and THE LOVES OF PHARAOH make a great (if rather long) double feature and are the only movies I've posted screenshots from in my home theatre gallery so far (mainly because they fit the decor so well). |

The Big Heat just seems to be following a familiar pattern for TT's vintage catalogue titles...and catalogue sales in general. After the first couple of months of enthusiastic pre-order and post-release action from the 'must have' crowd (Mea Culpa), most catalogue titles settle into a period of steady but unremarkable background sales, ebbing and flowing as other titles of similar interest become available. Then one day that "500 remaining" announcement goes out, providing a wake-up call to anyone who still might be sitting on-the-fence, and human nature takes over from there. For example, Journey to the Center of the Earth's late-50s/early 60s Verne fantasy-adventure trappings, combined with Bernard Herrmann's classic score, appealed to the pretty much the same core fans as Mysterious Island...so no surprise that almost to the day when Journey went up, Mysterious Island bounced back to life, frequently reappearing in SAE's weekly Top 10 chart until selling out 3 months later...just a week or so after the last Journey BDs went bye-bye. Tell me there wasn't a connection there. Although no one knows what's really up with those SAE cart totals anymore, they do show The Big Heat now under 1000 and continuing to decline. So I suspect all that title really needs is a 'helper' release, but we haven't had another vintage Noir since (unless you count Experiment in Terror). I mean, imagine if TT's Spring announcements included a Noir classic like...say...Gilda...or The Lady From Shanghai...or especially In a Lonely Place. Don't you think those remaining Big Heat discs would get scooped up pretty quickly? We're just creatures of pattern behaviour...even movie collectors. ![]() Last edited by ROclockCK; 12-08-2012 at 07:43 PM. |

I'm surprised it hasn't sold out yet... I was thinking it would definitely sell out sooner rather than later. |

![]() ![]() I may start flipping these discs, too. Probably pay for my Christmas haul and let me have 3 more hauls each year! If you don't like it, complain to the studios' management. Just make sure you lodge your complaint with the execs in charge of the execs dealing with the distributor. Your complaints will be heard, because the studios aren't interested in supporting a secondary market. Merry Christmas! Last edited by joie; 12-10-2012 at 05:59 PM. |
