I would try and see it, it's a very polarizing film, you either love it or hate it.

Wow, maybe I was wrong and it wasn't in that book. It was in something that criticized it heavily, I remember that much.

I'm with you. It's a weird film, no question, and it took me a couple of viewings to really appreciate it, but for decades I've thought that it was better than its reputation would have it. I happily owned it on LD, replaced that with the DVD, and I'll replace that with this BD.

I think it'll be in the same boat as titles like Rollerball. I don't expect it to sell out in days, but it may well sell out with a month or two.

My autographed The Blob (that I swore I wouldn't get) has shipped, along with my 4 January pre-orders.

My autographed copy of The Blob has also shipped with an order that also had preorders. Totally did not expect such a quick turnaround. Let's hope this is a positive sign of the new timing of the signed promos spreading the orders more evenly so SAE can handle everything reasonably.

I think it is awesome that people who did the BLOB deal are already getting their orders shipped with the JAN pre-orders but it also goes to show SAE still do NOT ship orders in which they are received. I love them I don't like to say anything negative about them but when they don't ship out orders as they are placed esp pre-orders it just makes too many angry and is wrong.

(Side note I don't know how their system gives them the order info so it could break it down strange ways so I can't say much. I've ordered from them for nearly 15 years. I guess we just get a bit more impatient for the TT blus to ship. :-)

Zardoz was probably mentioned in Medved's follow-up book, The Golden Turkey Awards.

I think we decided with The Blob that they were sending out the further away orders first. It seemed like everyone on East coast USA got shipped last, but it arrived in a day or two, while people on the West coast or in Europe got it shipped earlier.

That seemed to be the consensus at the time, anyway. I don't think they should have to mail them in order anyway.

Sorry for the continued OT, but I find this discussion hilarious. I hadn't thought about this book since I was about 10 years old. I found a list of everything in it:

http://www.listchallenges.com/the-fi...ms-of-all-time

Since I haven't read this book since I was a kid, I can't be 100% sure this is the same list that was in mine, but I definitely remember at least 3/4 of them being in there, and the other 1/4 are the entries I probably would have passed over as being boring.

Last Year at Marienbad is NOT one that I remembered being in it, I probably just ignored that entry as a kid cause I didn't know wtf it was talking about and it didn't sound interesting. Coincidentally, that's the entry that most identifies the authors as idiots, haha. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia was the only one I knew even when I was a kid that shouldn't be in there (cause I'd read Ebert's review several times!!). There are probably some other movies on there that are widely regarded as good that I'm just not familiar with; I do think that Jonathan Livingston Seagull was an inspired choice though. That really is a ridiculous movie, as is The Trial of Billy Jack. I'm not familiar with Zabriskie Point, but my guess is that's one of the ones that's in there cause the authors are meatheads that hate everything arty or liberal. Haha. Maybe it really is bad compared to Antonioni's better movies, though.

Some of the writing was really funny to a ten year old, especially the Dondi and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians entries.

I was mainly attracted to that book cause it had some giant stills from Godzilla Vs the Smog Monster, and I was a diehard Godzilla fan as a youngun and that was one of two Godzilla flicks that never had been shown on TV in my lifetime. :P

Here's a list of the golden turkey awards book, some of these are equally insane political stances from the authors, ex Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid or Night of the Living Dead (I can sorta understand Last House on the Left or Texas Chainsaw Massacre since in 1974 or whenever this was written they might have still been too shocking for anyone to process the quality of):

http://letterboxd.com/thecinema4pylo...ers/on/itunes/

Zardoz is on the list, so maybe you had both books and had them confused!

Anyway, the moral of the story is that Zardoz is at least as big of a turkey as Night of the Living Dead.

I'm starting to get excited for "First Men in the Moon". I hope it's not the last Harryhausen TT is going to release. I heard a few people mention that they are waiting for Gwangi. Maybe TT can license just the Harryhausen titles from Warner Archives and Fox since they have a track record of selling them out. I just watched "At the Earth's Core" and The Beast of Hollow Mountain" on blu. If those titles can make it to blu then the remaining Harryhausen movies are a no-brainer!!

Any word on if the new batch of "Fright Night" blu-rays have started to ship? I'm not sure why this movie keeps selling out but here I am one of the brainwashed getting it I think it's a good movie but not a great one.....

I don't think many will take Zardoz seriously...it is unique, engaging, a definition of "cult". My wife hates it, I love it.

Thanks for clarifying. I knew I had seen it in one of those books! I remember reading those books when I was about 16 and starting to get into movies. I thought they were great at the time and thought to myself that some of those films sounded like real stinkers. But when I finally got around to watching many of them, they weren't that bad at all or were actually really great films, Zardoz among them. Yeah, it's a weird and quirky film but I'll definitely be buying it, especially as I'm a huge fan of Sean Connery.

Gwangi would ONLY come from Warner as they rarely if ever sublicense. We can hope for One Million Years BC since its a Fox title and TT has deals with that studio. Fox sublicenses. Fright Night should be going out soon

I sorta hope that if One Million Years BC happens someone other than TT gets it, since Fox has only released the massively shortened version (which actually cuts out Harryhausen effects work) in this country and TT so far isn't the kind of label to go around gathering up film elements to get complete unedited versions if that's not what the studio handed them. I would probably buy it anyway, but it seems like a better candidate for someone like Scorpion (through the new connection with Kino) or something.

So the only January preorder title not shipping so far for anybody is Fright Night? My copies of Breaking Away and The Purple Rose of Cairo shipped today.

I just got ONE MILLION YEARS BC on dvd and watched it for the first time---it's not one of Harryhausen's better movies so I'm happy with the dvd.
I'm hoping Warner Bros. will release BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS on Blu-ray which is one of Harryhausen's really good movies.
Also, I'm hoping someone will re-release MYSTERIOUS ISLAND on Blu-ray.
I saw ZARDOZ in the 1970s and don't remember anything about it, so I'm still undecided about getting it.
