Ugh thought a new 4K scan would mean much for Deep Rising....seems scrubbed to me Old disc have 24-bit audio also.

It looks like the exact same transfer except darker to me.

It is, they just upped the gamma a bit.

Why? The Criterion disc has better PQ and the correct AR.

It's not scrubbed, nor is the master 24-bit (it's 16-bit).

The gamma is finally correct.

It seems that Criterion edition has some encoding issues and black levels show compression artefacts.

The Criterion has revisionist color according to Del Toro's own comments on the commentary track, plus worse contrast and really horrible compression in the blacks. The UK version looks much better to my eye.

Look at the horrid macroblocking around the creature's legs.

Screenshots can be deceiving sure, but based on those I'd say the UK edition looks better, sharper, and with more details in dark scenes...am I missing something here?
