Last year it was on October 9th, and this year the first Flash sale was very late, I put my money on October 13 or 20 for this year, either way not late enough for Mulholland Dr.

In reviewing my collection (organized by spine) in my cabinet there are several gaps between one digipack to the next. This does exclude a few box sets that I have on top of the cabinet.

- #64 The Third Man to #167 Monterey Pop...26 plastic cases
- #496 Che to #541 Night of the Hunter...19 plastic
- #555 Sweet Smell of Success to #582 Carlos...18 plastic
- #594 Godzilla to #631 Trilogy of Life...27 plastic
- #725 Eraserhead to present...24 plastic

I like the variety of the cases for shelf appearance. There have been other stretches of plastic only but this has been one of the longer stretches.

I was planning on waiting for B&N to fill in the post-July titles, but I'm willing to spend $2 extra for not waiting and better shipping. I'll use B&N to get complete with Eclipse. So I bought everything from here through November excluding Apu.

Nice $22 preorders. Very happy to get Dressed to Kill, Moonrise and Brood for that. Softens the blow of Criterion's worsening compression and pamphlets instead of booklets a bit as well.

I have noticed the bit-rate is not always the highest, which is probably because of too many supplements, but I really don't see it being noticeable in the PQ, at least on screenshots, let alone while in playback.

Agree on the booklets though, but I am slowly accepting that they may never come back, at least not for every release.

I went ahead and pre-ordered all the titles except Code Unknown. Don't know too much about that movie.

As lovely as the prices are, I'll wait until the flash sale and for whatever's left, the B&N sale. Tax still makes these a little under $25 for me so not an ideal price point. I will exercise my level of patience.

It looks like In Cold Blood's supplements have been amended. Originally they were including a clip from an interview from the Jonathan King Show, seemingly unaware that King was has become something of an infamous figure in the UK in recent years on account of his dalliances with young boys. I emailed them about his inclusion on the extra features but they never got back to me, but I've just noticed that the clip has been removed from the disc.

Seems hypocritical to embrace Polanski so strongly considering his "dalliances" with underage girls

Default In a nutshell...

Okay, I'm planning on dropping a small fortune on Criterions to develop my collection when they have their flash sale and also joining B&N as a member in late October for their sale. I'm new to this and without scouring the details could someone please kindly tell me what the basics are?

If I remember correctly the Criterion flash sale is 50% off as well as B&N being 50% off with deeper discounts for members by adding coupons.

Much appreciated. Happy holiday.

Thanks Pedro, so they use the SRP when calculating the 50% off and not their "store" price? example, when looking on the Criterion site for Gimme Shelter, they list the SRP as $39.95 and the Criterion store price as $31.96.

Exactly, they end up around $19.97 each

B&N uses the SRP also and not their store price?

Yes, I believe that is how it works most of the time (for other stores or companies I mean), it's just that the SRP of Criterion's is high compared to other companies.

B&N membership also gets you free express shipping on the website without a minimum.

To an extent. However, Polanski's inclusion in the collection are unquestionably some of cinema's most influential and greatest films; as opposed to a supplement that has really had no bearing on cinematic history whatsoever.

After reading about the Amazon sale here, I decided to pull the trigger on Dressed to Kill (second printing) and The Brood, so that I'll have both of them in October. I also added a pre-order for the Sony Blu-ray release of John Carpenter's Christine, since the price is right for that one as well.

I really don't think The Brood is interesting enough for me to warrant a purchase. Unless the special features are beyond godly, and the transfer is also beyond beyond godly, the film just doesn't cut it for me.
