Criterion has the rights to the title and it was released on BD in the UK a couple of months ago so it's not a huge stretch or anything

Fair enough. I can see where you could see that. Not really a fan of that film, though.

I might be forgetting some. That's off the top of my head.
I've purged all of those except Blind Chance for quite some time now.

I held on to the Kieślowski because I think I'll enjoy it more on a second watch, but I know for a fact that it won't come anywhere close to the greatness of Véronique or Three Colors.

Would like to see that happen, although I am tempted by the StudioCanal Region B release now it has been corrected.

Browsing amazon.uk today and noticed the upcoming Tarkovsky releases from Artificial Eye; specifically Stalker and Mirror, which I've never seen but seem to be very highly regarded. Anyone know anything about the transfers? Or if US releases are on the way? Criterion, maybe?

Well it's confirmed already to be coming from CC, but could be a little sooner than I thought. Perhaps an Oct./Nov. release.

There are a lot of questions about those AE releases. This thread has some info, but mostly just more questions. We know that Mosfilm made new transfers of Tarkovsky's films, but nobody knows whether AE is releasing the new or old transfers - and they've been delayed several times. Criterion has announced that they're releasing Ivan's Childhood in the UK at almost the same time as AE were releasing it (supposedly). It's all a bit of a headache to figure out right now, honestly.

FWIW, Stalker is absolutely amazing, but Mirror went straight over my head when I saw it (gorgeous visuals, though). I'm still getting it, though, if/when it's released in a decent verison.

Ah, I somehow missed that it was confirmed already. Well, it was news to me, anyways!

And the sooner the better. I was about 15 when I saw it in the theater. It left an imprint, that's for sure.

Letter Never Sent is on the tentative blind buy list that I'm putting together for July at B&N.

Did you not like it?

...I heard it was pretty good.

I disagree!

They couldn't have illustrated him "any old way."

I have yet to see a Criterion-illustrated penis.

This clue is for The Naked Island.

You see, he's naked... and he's sitting on an island!

Hence, The Naked Island.

You've never heard of Criterion doing double clues?

Hell the two suns and a moon in last year's drawing was for like three or more movies.

"The Naked Island" illustration kind of looks like a guy taking the world's largest dump with a palm tree sticking out of it.

Thanks for this. Just scanned all 14 pages in the thread. Blimey! A "bit of a headache" may be an understatement.

I guess that's what happens when you eat too many coconuts.

Edit: Maybe it's a clue for Coconuts!

It's good but was expendable for me. Also, the Macbeth I sold was the Polanski film.

Some of my most watched films in the collection:

Mystery Train
The Wages of Fear
The Red Shoes
Black Narcissus
Days of Heaven
Secret of the Grain
Revanche
Certified Copy
Close-Up
Kiss Me Deadly
Kuroneko
Complete Monterey Pop Festival
Leon Morin, Priest
Last Year at Marienbad
