As I pointed out elsewhere, the dates for Andrei Rublev and The Sacrifice might be a typo. The others are 2 titles every month, 2 weeks apart, so I reckon the former is actually April 25th and the latter July 11th. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong though!

Anyway, glad we finally have dates for these. I'm very excited, but also a little frustrated as the box set will be out afterwards and that's what I'll be aiming to get hold of. That is, I assume it will be a lot cheaper to get them in a set than separately, and may also come with some exclusive extras (or just some nice packaging). Let's hope it comes out before my birthday! Itching to get hold of these discs ASAP, but not willing to pay £12+ x 7.

Great to see Stalker coming to the format. Very excited about that one. I'll be keeping an eye on Solaris, though I don't expect AE to improve upon the Criterion release.

Solaris on a UK BD ... that's almost like the original Star Wars showing up! Almost ... Count me in for Stalker and Solaris.

Tarkovsky on Blu-ray. Wow count me in. Only seen his first 5 films but each of them is a thing of beauty. Ivan's Childhood and Mirror are glorious.

will get the boxset for sure, mainly because it will be slightly cheaper given AE's history with boxsets and I already have 4 of those from Region A (although no doubt some of those will at least be bested, at least the Kinos).

I wish AE would release the box set first then single releases later.

I hope they have the original DVD extras back too.
And that they keep the design of their 2011 Tarkovsky box set for this.

I wish they would too! Already got bitten by this strategy when the Ray and Truffaut titles started to come out. Presumably it's because they'll be QC'ing them in twos month-on-month, but I'd honestly prefer to wait for a complete box set in July and they release the separate editions at the same time or afterwards. Arrow do this, as do most other labels...it's quite annoying to know that there are several films from a set already out but you can't get them yet because you're waiting for an eventual box set.

The only benefit to waiting, I guess, is seeing reviews of each disc as they're released so you can tell if they're all worth buying or not. By the sounds of this though, they're completely new restorations so are likely to be excellent...which makes the wait all the more frustrating!

Just have to distract myself 'til then with all the other great releases coming out in the next 6 months.

Does anyone have any idea what the (rough) price level is going to be for the box set? Do AE titles ever go on sale anywhere? I'm new to AE so I have no idea what to expect, but Tarkovsky is too big a temptation to ignore.

AE titles usually end up just under £7 each on base.com months after their release. The box set will probably come out before they drop to that price though.

Thanks! I noticed that base.com sells the AE Chaplin Collection (11 discs) for 57 GBP, so I'm guessing the 7 Tarkovsky movies will be in the same range. That is awfully tempting!

If you're not happy with it don't buy it. No one is forcing you to.

After David Bowie's passing, reading this made today suck slightly less. Thanks for sharing, Oscar. I'm looking forward to picking up the box set, whenever it's released.

For someone who hasn't seen his films, should I pick up the boxset later, or break myself in easier with one of his films first?

Like it obviously depends of the price of the set, if it's not a steep set, then I'll obviously go for that.

Bear in mind that many of Tarkovsky's films are long (more than 2.5 hours at least) and VERY languorously paced, and not necessarily upfront in terms of plot and character beats. Unless that sort of movie automatically appeals to you, I suggest you try Stalker or Solaris before you invest in the set. These are famous classics and you should be able to offload them if you decide to go in for the set.
