Did anyone watch the room tone video? When they showed the slates, two were blank. I recognized Terence Davies didn’t recognize the other people. They just might have had no writing on the skates. But if I can speculate for a second. Maybe Terence Davies trilogy of short films? He has some other films that could get released.

Ordered a used copy of Rushmore on blu and it arrived, with a Jason Schwartzman autograph. It was a random seller and I inquired about its lineage and he said he purchased a storage facility in LA that had a crate of criterions. He didn’t know what the writing inside was. It’s several years old, but ironically it’s says “j.s. Thank you. Merry Xmas” with a heart.

Looked at several of his autographs online and I’m convinced it’s legit. I know it’s not worth much but it’s a keeper and the fact I got it the day before Christmas ties it all together.

When is the next Criterion flash sale and/or B&N 1/2 off sale? Got a $75 gift card for Christmas.

Criterion one is often around the 4th Tuesday in February (so possibly 2/21), but could be the first week in March (this year it was March 8th for example), and B&N will be sometime in July.

Excited for Oedipus Rex! Can’t believe it took a while for the US to get Pasolini’s Oedipus Rex, although I notice that a lot of Eureka MoC titles aren’t available on Blu-Ray in the US or some don’t even have a release in the US at all (Punishment Park for example).

Praise be!! Further hope that a Pasolini BOX is coming! I think the only major feature of his that they are missing now is "Medea".

Man, I'd love a Masahiro Shinoda box set from Criterion.

They have no less than 19 of his films streaming on their channel, some of those titles they've been streaming since their Hulu days.

Yet the only title of his they have a blu ray out of is "Pale Flower". Even their "Double Suicide" DVD is OOP, I believe. I think "Samurai Spy" DVD is his only other title that they've released.

Their channel has treasures on there: "Silence", "The Petrified Forest", "Himiko", "Under the Blossoming Cherry Trees", "The Ballad of Orin", "Gonza the Spearman".... it goes on and on....

Please let's get these out there on physical media. I largely hate streaming.

Under the Blossoming Cherry Trees is utterly fantastic. I also really expected Silence to come out to coincide with the Scorsese film, but alas, it didn't happen.

I have the Masters of Cinema/Eureka DVD of "Silence". I also have import DVDs of "Under the Blossoming Cherry Trees" and "The Ballad of Orin".

He's so underrepresented in the US on physical media.

And Criterion is just sitting on a lot of his works.

Yeah, very underrepresented for sure. Criterion has stockpiles of Japanese titles and has a large chunk of a few filmography's of certain directors. I would love some boxsets from Japanese directors. Masahiro Shinoda, Hideo Gosha, Juzo Itami, and the list goes on.

Not OOP but it is one of their worst DVDs from what I heard. It also has no extras besides a short essay.

Hey guys. Excited about a few criterion gifts from my wife

I got 4K Citizen Kane! I haven’t watched it in a few decades. First I have to comment on the packaging. It really feels like the aesthetic of Kane himself. Going to look into it to see where each disc is and how to take it out. Super excited to revisit this and super excited to hear the commentary by Peter Bogdanovich.

Also got The Naked Island by Shindo. I have and enjoy his other criterion releases, Onibaba and Kuroneko. Excited to finally see this because I’ve heard so much about it.

USA Chilly Scenes of Winter

Have now eventually seen the front cover artwork for Criterion US's Blu-ray release of Chilly Scenes of Winter, and I love it. This is one of a couple of the announcements for March next year that I'm interested in (the other being Inland Empire).

If this doesn't end up coming out in the UK, I can always get the release by Criterion's US branch (like with one or two other Criterion US releases (which I've still to get).

I do like films shot in a wintry setting and have read very good things about this film, so for those reasons at least, this film will be right up my street.

I certainly would welcome it and the print on TCM looked pretty good. I wonder if this is one they’ve gotten the rights to but haven’t done anything with yet.
It was on DVD on the Home Vision Entertainment label, sort of Criterion adjacent at the time. Cure was another one, for example.

I consider the musical score for THE NAKED ISLAND to be mesmerizing. I screened that film on campus back in 1974, and although it didn't draw a large audience, the students who attended liked it very much.

What's a guy got to do to get Criterion to release more Truffaut? Kino is going to release some titles in a few months, I feel like it would be cool if Criterion could release (maybe re-release) some titles. Maybe the rest of the Antoine Daniel series.
