They’re getting smarter and making more, but here’s the problem.

When the store gets ten copies and puts them out, ten people don’t come rushing into the store to by one copy, one guy comes rushing into the store to buy all ten copies, and then ten copies of the next one, and then ten copies of the next one, and then ten copies of the next one.

Somewhere there’s a big fat dude who has probably at least 100 copies of PF on his shelf (right next to 100 copies of every other big release), and he’s listing them for a ton of money. It’s pretty sleazy honestly. While I stand by PF being out of print by now (as in Paramount isn’t pressing any more copies and most if not all of them have left the factory), they’re not worth a ton of money, since probably at least half of the copies in existence are just being hoarded so they can be sold for stupid prices later. The same goes for a lot of movies released over the last few years.

The only discs that are easy to get without paying an arm and a leg to the creeps is T2, Pirates, and Criterion discs. Criterions are expensive enough 90% of the year, and T2 and Pirates sucked. Every other discs is “rare and OOP” and selling for at least twice what they’re really worth.

The discussion was about Criterion's #1200 and which big title would be appropriate for that round number. Your story about someone buying 100 copies of PF is irrelevant. It's been readily available for anyone who wanted it for almost a year now, even if went OOS tommorow, Criterion would need to get people to double dip a year after a release, which will be tough (and it will cost twice as much as the current Paramount release, which is at $17 on Amazon right now, not really "rare and OOP").

I'm not even going into the fact that it's the one Tarantino movie Paramount has and they're unlikely to license it out before they squeezed every dime they can from their own release.

You can't really believe this is a possibility for Criterion's December releases. There are so many other titles that didn't get a recent release that would make more sense for them.

I just saw a post on Francis Ford Coppola’s Instagram that was a clip from “Peggy Sue Got Married” with the tag “criterioncollection” under it. Has that been in the works to come from them or did he just tell us that it’s coming?

EDIT

Sorry…turns out it was a repost from Criterion saying the film was available to watch on the Criterion Channel.

Meantime
Wildlife
Day for Night
Mouchette (upgrade)
Paris Belongs to Us
The Rules of the Game
Varda
Fellini
Olympics

I can't decide!!
Did a post search in this thread where the film Polyester had been mentioned.

Among the titles I decided to get in the recent VS Labor Day weekend sale was Lust in the Dust (one of the reasons I've been wanting to get a copy of Lust in the Dust was because of the part-spaghetti western theme). Eventually, when there is another Criterion UK sale (ideally on HMV's website), among the titles I want to get is another film where Tab Hunter and Divine starred together in, Polyester.

Off the top of my head, other Criterion titles on my Blu-ray film title want list:

All That Heaven Allows
The Asphalt Jungle
Chilly Scenes of Winter
George Washington (found out this on Facebook recently, discovering it was directed by David Gordon Green (who directed the Blumhouse Halloween trilogy)
Inland Empire
Magnificent Obsession
Marketa Lazarova
Until the End of the World
Wanda
and Written on the Wind.

Great list! The thing about Criterion with me is that my list is always changing. They have a good amount of titles always coming out, and sometimes my tastes change a bit as to what I want to see next. I need to make a new one for the next sale

Roger Corman visited the Criterion Closet on Tuesday. I had no idea he was now 97 .. I have to imagine he's now the oldest person to visit the closet.

And despite his age, he's still got a sharp mind and is well spoken, and gives great interviews - he can still tell detailed stories about some movie he made back in 1957.

I bought the Mel Brooks boxed sets twice already (upgraded to Blu-ray.) If Criterion can give them a 4K treatment, I would buy them a 3rd time.

Roger Corman is probably the guy who mentored the most amount of directors in the collection! Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme, Peter Bogdanovich, Paul Bartel, Dennis Hopper, Monte Hellman, and Jack Nicholson...

If Criterion were to release a movie directed by Roger Corman, which one would you think they would pick? (I'm assuming they haven't released any on dvd or laserdisc).

The Vincent Price movies would probably popular be picks, but I think Criterion would probably go with something like Little Shop of Horrors or The Terror.

I had a couple of good conversations with him years ago on that shite site Twitter and he had a fantastic sense of humor! Not like Friedkin who actually blocked me on the site after I poked fun at his pastel FRENCH CONNECTION. Corman is a real idol of mine, an artist who knew what he was doing and how to do it.
