Yes! I don’t remember exactly what specs the Godzilla set was being held for, but cover art approval has been known to cause delays. The November 2020 slate was three days late, and when it finally dropped, Moonstruck just said something like “Artwork Coming Soon”. If I understand correctly, most of the titles from major studios have to get cover art approved by the original studio, so that can sometimes cause delays

Have any of you ever bought replacement slipboxes or artwork from Criterion? I bought a replacement slipbox for Paper Moon, and it arrived bent in half with creases everywhere, because the morons shipped it inside a thin, flat cardboard mailer, so I contacted them, and they sent another, and once again, they put it inside a flat mailer. I thought Shout was the worst, but I think Criterion has now replaced them.

How did you buy a replacement slipbox? I've never heard of this being possible before.

Toho, so who knows. I remember that they got permission to include the Japanese cut of King Kong vs Godzilla really late in production, so maybe it was that.

I posted this in the French Connection thread but I think it's relevant here.
A trailer for a 4K french theatrical release of The French Connection has showed up on YouTube. Unfortunately it's up-scaled dogshit. I don't know what this means for the rumored Criterion release.

You just email them and ask. It costs $5 each and shipping is included, but at the moment I'm about to pull my hair out because they keep sending me damaged ones.

Thanks, that's good to know! Sounds frustrating though if they can't figure out how to package it.

I emailed Film Masters about this, and they said they still plan to release it. They're wrapping up some things and will put it back on their site when they have a street date.

Not the first time a trailer doesn't use the actual master for the restoration. I see this all the time with Alamo Drafthouse - old masters for clips in their trailers, but the presentation itself is the newest 4K ersion.

Scott, I'm not sure if you received my reply to you via PM. It is not showing up in my sent list. But RE: Paper Moon. The BD only has the disc and the foldout.

A screening of Yasuzo Masumura's 'The Wife of Seisaku' at NYFF has Janus listed as the distributor.
