TCM is showing Basil Dearden's All Night Long (1962), a classic Brit noir, essentially Othello set in the early 60s London jazz scene, with Dave Brubeck, Johnny Dankworth and Charles Mingus guest-starring as themselves. It opens with the Criterion logo. Released by Network in the UK.

A 4K Yentl release would be pretty nice, especially since Criterion seems to have a good relationship with Babs. I'll also continue to wish for more Powell & Pressburger.

Sorry to sound like a broken record but I would some day like to see a region A release of Kohei Oguri's 1981 film Muddy River (Doro no kawa) by Criterion or pretty much anyone at this point.
This I believe would be a great addition to Criterion's already wonderful library of foreign films and especially with regards to Japanese cinema.

Peace everyone.

Guess they didn't announce them for November, so Dead Man 4K, Kiss of the Spider-Woman, and Birth might be coming in December.

I don't know who owns the rights to the movie The Mating Season, starring Thelma Ritter, John Lund and Gene Tierney, but I'd love it if Criterion could put it out.
It was never even released on DVD, a truly lost movie.

Have Criterion ever hinted at releasing Kiss of the Spider-Woman?

Not sure if Criterion ever hinted at it themselves, but half those rumored titles were announced for Nov so someone's onto something.

This is the definitive version, I watch it every Christmas:

Despite the fact that Leonard Maltin introduces the film on the BD, I've only seen it once on TCM. Otherwise they have the mediocre Clive Owens version.

Alastair Sim and Michael Hordern reprised their roles in the Chuck Jones animated version, which is actually very good and reproduces the style of the illustrations in the original book.

After snooping around a bit, looks like Criterion is definitely releasing
[Show spoiler]Pee-wee's Big Adventure
, because it's listed on Resillion's website as a recent project.

Criterion has probably had it for over a decade, since it's in Eclipse Series 25: Basil Dearden's London Underground released in 2011. Now that they've revived the series, they may upgrade the whole set in the future. Out of four films, Network released three on Blu-ray in the UK, The League of Gentlemen (1960) and Victim (1961), as well as aforementioned All Night Long, while Sapphire (1959) has never been released on Blu-ray anywhere.

Could anyone with an early copy of the Spinal Tap release detail the contents of what the following actually consists of:
Quote:
Excerpts from The Return of Spinal Tap (1992)
Interviews with the band for its 2009 Back from the Dead album
Trailers, media appearances, and music videos
As I am curious to see if it actually contains *any* previously unreleased-on-disc archive material at all. Despite the two discs it looks at first glance to be a weirdly conservative selection without anything unique dredged up - Optimum's 2009 UK release pulled up some nice rarities that had never seen disc before. The Back From The Dead special (released on DVD in 2009) should be 59 minutes long, and the full home video version of The Return Of Spinal Tap is 117 minutes long so I'm curious as to how much has gone.

Also, is the deleted scenes compilation in HD or the same open matte SD master from the laserdisc/DVD? A clip of it is used in the sequel and it's seemingly sourced off the DVD. Same question for The Final Tour. Other than the new Oswalt/Reiner extra there doesn't seem to have been much production effort in this release and I'm wondering how much is hiding in that miscellany section.

Thanks! And wow... that's awful. Don't even see why it needs 2 discs to be honest. Return Of blitzed down to 10 minutes and even the Back From The Dead special has lost 3 minutes? And yep, the 'Promotional Materials' section is just the bits and bobs from the old MGM DVD dragged across. No B1tch School, no Nigel Nat Geo footage, no Live Earth, no All The Way To 11 doc, and so little Return Of that they may as well not have bothered.

Previously unreleased or rare things they could have licenced - the 117 minute version of The Return Of Spinal Tap, the Majesty Of Rock video, the SNL material from the time, the TV Show sketch, footage from the Likely Stories series that birthed the film, or if Criterion wanted to do their 'extended non-fiction feature on disc 2' trick they could have licenced the 2010 out-of-character live show film from Shearer who owns it himself. Just one of these things on top would have been a significant gesture.

So other than the Reiner/Oswalt interview, there is literally nothing new here, and if you have any 2009 edition of the Blu-ray and the old Criterion DVD you have everything here plus a better master of the film. When did Criterion get so slapdash?

I doubt we are getting it for December, but still crossing my fingers on Kenji Misumi's sword trilogy. Just finished watching The Betrayal from Radiance and would love more samurai/Raizo Ichikawa films.

The presentation on the Criterion Channel opens with both the Criterion and Janus logos, so they have it. It is just a question of are they ready to release it.
