I'm with you...I'd never seen it until about a week ago, it took all my effort and multiple tries but I gave up after about an hour of it. I can appreciate the imagination in the production design, but it seemed like that was all that Gilliam was interested in.

I think that 3 (or 5) disc Brazil package has become one of the quintessential Criterion releases in a lot of peoples eyes. It set a standard back in the day and when people think of the "Criterion treatment" I bet they are thinking along those lines.

That package was also as much about the machinations of the 80s studio machine as much as the movie itself, with different cuts of the movie providing examples of just who might be right or wrong, the auteur or the system.

I like the movie, but only really the Gillian cut. And I like the story of the hell of making it probably more than the movie itself. Kind of like how I look forward a little bit more to watching Heart of Darkness than Apocalypse Now.

Of the many heads of the Criterion hydra, this release represents the king of supplements, and is pretty legitimate if you ask me. The fact that the universal blu is apparently so lackluster, makes me glad there is a Criterion release likely on the way.

Also, it is probably going to be Gilliams best movie and I enjoy it.

I know, I hate having to wade through those stupid lists to get to Spider's questions about tvs and blu ray players.

I love the booklets.

But when do you read yours?

It's not during the movie? Afterall, you'll miss the film! And it's not like you can take a lazy afternoon off to read them as you would with a novel or the like since the booklets are only around 20-30 pages.

peace
Supplements don't really influence me buying a Criterion. I don't really buy Criterions for the sake of getting Criterions however if its film I'm interested in, I'll get it. Supplements are just icing on the cake.

Speaking of which, has anybody gotten any tweets from Lou Reed today?

I'm getting a little worried...

I don't know how 1 question (that turns into alot of answers) that helps someone the same as page after page of "Look what I might be getting in the sale, almost the same as yours, pretty cool of me huh?", but as long as one gets something out of list after list of one's wishlist, it's all good to me. Move along then.

Watched People on Sunday today for the first time. The film was very enjoyable, and afterward I felt like I had spent a day in Germany of 1929. I plan on viewing the film again very soon.

In response to Norbie...
I usually read the articles in the Criterion booklets right before, or right after, I view the films.

My initial question was to find out if fans would be discouraged from purchasing the $39.99 (MSRP) BD releases when supplements are almost non existent. (as is the case with Black Moon)

Which two of these would you recommend I pick up in the sale?

Leon Morin, Priest
High and Low
Sweet Smell of Success
Repulsion
The 400 Blows
The Magician
Pale Flower
8 1/2
Solaris

They're all top notch titles but I can't pick two myself.

I'd go with High and Low and 8 1/2 but everyone's gonna have a different opinion and I haven't seen 400 Blows...

I have all those titles except Leon Morin, and High and Low (but will be picking them up), but if I had to chose only two at first it would be Repulsion and The Magician. I seem to watch and enjoy those the most.

I might manage to get more than 2. As long as they ship separately then I should be ok with customs.

They usually dont, put they put "Books" on the package. I dont know where you live, but in Norway books goes right through the customs. I have gotten two large deliveries from BN without paying anything.

Anyone else who's not American just get a whole whack of cash credited back to them from Amazon USA because they lowered the import fee? Like seriously, I just received almost 20 some bucks back from films I ordered back at the end of April. 3 of them were Criterions (Charade, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, & The Sweet Smell of Success) out of the 7 they gave me cash back on. It's so weird and random, but I'm not complaining.

I think you have a large pile of big glass stones to throw from your big glass house when it comes to what is and isn't off topic in this here Criterion thread.

To complain about people talking about what they plan to buy and how it belongs in another thread, while more than once ignoring the hundreds of threads containing all your bluray and tv information is the irony, see.

People are happy to answer your questions (I was), but we aren't your parents and you aren't our only child as far as this thread is concerned. Play nice.

[Show spoiler]Apologies if SB's mom also posts in the thread.

Are you sure there is a B&N sale?

Hey, Where The White Women At?
